Matilda Bradley

"How well do you know him?"

I asked Eleanor. Her answer came quickly, and with enthusiasm: "Very well! I've known Alexander since our first year..." As she talked, I couldn't help but imagine what kind of person he was. Was he a good guy, or a bad one?

"So you're dating?" I asked, not wanting to keep her waiting.

Eleanor's smile grew even more. "We've been dating for months now." I smiled back weakly, not knowing what else to say. After an awkward silence, I asked, "So... you said he'll be coming here, right?"

Eleanor nodded and explained that he was a bit late. "That's okay," I said, trying to ease the tension. "I'm sure he'll be here soon."

"So why don't you talk about Alexander... I'm really curious about him" ... I said trying to ease the awkward situation again.

Eleanor's eyes shone with excitement as she spoke about Alexander. "I've known him since our first year in college," she beamed, a small smile playing at the corners of her lips. "He's the best thing that's ever happened to me."

My heart skipped a beat at the way she talked about him. I felt a tingle of excitement run through me as I imagined what meeting him would be like.

Eleanor's smile widened and she continued to talk about him. "He's tall, with honey-dew brown eyes that seem to pierce right through you," she said. "And when he speaks, his voice is like honey, smooth and intoxicating."

She took a deep breath, the enthusiasm on her face turning to a small twinkle in her eye. "But the best part about him," she said, "is that he's a true gentleman, the type of guy who opens doors, offers his coat, and makes you feel like a princess. He's everything I've ever wanted in a man."

I couldn't help but feel a pang of envy at the way she spoke about him as if she was living the perfect life. I wished I could find a man like that, someone who made me feel as if I were the only girl in the world. But as I looked at her, I couldn't help but see a small sadness in her eyes, a deep yearning that even the perfect man couldn't fulfill.

I shook my head, trying to push the thoughts out of my mind. I didn't want to be jealous of her, not when we were supposed to be best friends. I forced a smile, trying to hide the emotions that were welling up inside me.

Suddenly, the door to the bar swung open, and a tall, lanky man with dark hair walked in. Even from across the room, I could feel the magnetic pull of his personality, the charming aura that surrounded him. I knew that this must be Alexander, and my heart started to pound in my chest.

Alexander approached us, a charming smile on his face, and Eleanor's voice filled with excitement as she introduced us. "Matilda, this is Alexander, Alexander, this is Matilda."

Alexander extended his hand, his grip strong and confident. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Matilda," he said, his voice deep and seductive. "I've heard a lot about you from Eleanor."

I felt a wave of unease wash over me as he spoke as if a warning bell was going off in the back of my mind. Something was not right about this guy, something that was hidden beneath that surface charm. But I couldn't quite put my finger on it, and I didn't want to ruin the evening by being paranoid.

"It's nice to meet you, too," I said, trying to keep the apprehension out of my voice. "Eleanor has told me so much about you."

Alexander chuckled, a deep, rich sound that made my heart skip another beat. "Ah, yes, she does like to talk, doesn't she?" he said, a sly smile playing at the corners of his lips.

I felt a small jolt of anger at the way he spoke of Eleanor as if she was just some object to be played with. But before I could say anything, Eleanor jumped in, her voice filled with excitement.
