Aila

Terror flooded through me. Now whose the ass. Here I was protecting a guy who I thought was hurt, and now he's using me as leverage.

Great.

He had the tubing of his oxygen cannula wrapped around my neck. I tried to turn slightly, but it only restricted my airflow more.

I struggled to get air into my lungs. The small piece of plastic was digging through my throat slowly.

"Let her fucking go, Christian." Grey demanded in a loud voice.

"Shut the fuck up pretty boy. Do as I say or she'll be without air in less than a minute." He said with his scratchy voice.

I made eye contact with Grey. Tears welled in my eyes as the realization settled in. That I could possibly loose my life.

Grey was getting angrier by the second. I'd never seen him this livid. He kept staring into my eyes as if he was trying to tell me something.

I was loosing more and more air as the seconds went by, making it harder to breathe.

I knew I had to fight. Not for me, but for my daughter. Something in me fired up, and I began to use all the energy I had to thrash around try to get out of his hold. For being heavily bruised and torn up, the bitch was strong.

As I did so, it gave Grey and Ronan enough time to come handle him.

Both of them grabbed Christian and retrained him to the bed. As soon as they ripped the tube from around my neck, I fell to the ground gasping for air uncontrollably.

My head was on my knees as I coughed, trying to get as much air back into my system.

I held onto the rail and tried to stand myself up. I was gasping for air at the point. My throat was dry as my lungs tried to suck in air rapidly.

Both of them had his restrained by now against the bed. As they did so, Grey locked eyes with me and made a beeline towards the railing where I was standing.

He removed my hands from around my neck, and gently held on to the side of my face. He tilted my head up in multiple directions, getting a good look at bruising.

He brushed his thumb over the sore part, which I guessed was starting to bruise at the point.

"Are you okay?" He breathed out.

"Yes, I'm fine." I said in a firm tone. He furrowed his brows again, for the second time that night.

"Are you sure?" He asked questingly.

I gave him a hard look. Ignores me for how long and now is all suddenly concerned?

And they say women have mood swings?!

"Leave me the fuck alone." I told him in a dark tone.

As I did- his tone immediately changed too. "I just saved your life. Again. You should be thanking me." he said in a challenging tone.

I said nothing and continued to stare at him in a challenging tone.

"Why are you working in the worst hospital in the country? This place is loaded with asbestos and whatnot." He said in a disgusting tone.

"Because not everyone was blessed with a fucking silver spoon in their mouth and actually has to work for shit. I didn't have money to buy my way through life. I worked for it." I screamed in a furious tone.

He stared at me as a series of emotions flew through his face.

If stares were bullets, I'd be 6 feet under by now. He walked slowly towards me. Each step he took made my pulse race faster by the second.

Before I knew it he was right in front of me. His muscled chest was parallel with my face, causing me to crane my head up to look at his tall figure.

I was scared shitless.

"Don't talk about shit you know nothing about." He said in a lethal tone.

"I wasn't born with a silver fucking spoon. I was born with a set of parents who didn't give a fuck. Where I never knew where my next meal would come from. Where I was stealing at a young age just to feed my little sister. Hard work got me to where I am today. So don't fucking assume you know it all."

I tried not to falter, but failed. Instead, I nodded silently with tears in my eyes.

He went grabbed my cheek again, and I flinched. After a few seconds he let go. He probably checked to see if there was any other damage caused by the tubing.

He backed up and focused to Ronan who had the bad guy tied up waiting by the door like trash.

"Let's go." He said in a firm tone.

And he walked out. Every step more heavier than the other. He left without saying anything.

I looked to the door and saw Ronan give me a sad smile. "I'm sorry about everything."

I only nodded. God forbid I talk and start to cry. Ronan was about to leave when instead he came up to me and engulfed me in a hug.

"Don't take it personal. He's just had a rough life and sometimes can't handle it." He said has he rubbed my back.

"Although I have to agree with him on one thing. This is a terrible place to work. I can get you situated somewhere else if you'd like."

I looked up to him, tears spilling. "Thank you."

He wiped them in a fatherly way. "Of course."

"You're a strong girl." He said before he left.

But was I really?
