So like expected Zack asked Emma out, she pretended that she was shocked about it but I knew exactly how happy she was. She said yes and now my two best friends were dating each other. Funny how life plays out sometimes. But it made me happy to see that everyone around me was happy.
I and Emma were at our lockers when Zack walked up to us " Hey babe" he called out. "Hi" I said before I realised he meant it for Emma. Awkward. Fortunately I don't think they heard me. They started talking about a date they had for the evening and as he was leaving he kissed her. It made me squirm. "Um I know I said I was ok with all this" I said while making wild hand gestures "but can you guys like not make out in front of me. It's kind of weird to see my two best friends all over each other. So..um..uh get a room" I ranted. Zack laughed and Emma blushed. He quickly kissed her on the cheek and walked away.
Zack called me up while I was at home. " BECKY" he shouted at the other line. "I'm not deaf Zack. Calm down." I replied. " You're coming for the game no? You're coming right? Please tell me you're coming" he asked me more hyper than usual. " Did you have skittles? Are you on a sugar rush" I asked amused. " I had two packets of skittles" I could almost hear him smiling. Zack couldn't handle his sugar. One packet of skittle was enough to send him over the edge. He was like a kid who had ADD. " Yes I'm coming Zack. Have I missed any of your games ever? I have a date with Finn before that but I'll come directly to the stadium" " yayyy" he screamed like a little kid. " See you at the game then. Ok bye." and he hung up.
I had been Zack's biggest supporter when it came to football. I had been to each and every game of his always there in the stands cheering him on. If I even late for any of his games, he would make a face and not talk to me. There was no way possible I was going to miss the biggest game of the season.
I was on my date with Finn and the game started in about 2 hrs. We were having a lovely time, Finn being the gentleman like always and making me feel special. I was about to leave as there was only half an hour left till the game started. Finn stopped me. Stay he told me. "I would love to Finn, but I need to go. Zack's playing" I said. He kissed me. "But this is more fun" he hinted. I giggled. "I'm so sorry babe" I said apologetically. I could see Finn ball his fists and clench his jaw. "Fine go" he almost screamed at me. "What's wrong Finn? Why are you acting like this?" I asked a little taken aback. " It's obvious who's more important to you. If you cared for me even a bit you would stay" he said through gritted teeth. " It's his most important game of the year. Don't make me choose between you both. Please" I could feel my throat choking and the tears forming in my eyes. Finn didn't say anything, just stared at me. "If you can't understand how important my friends are to me then I guess you know who I choose. We are through" I spat at him. " If only you and Zack were friends" I didn't understand what he meant but rushed out, the tears falling freely now. How could I be so wrong about someone? I went to the washroom to compose myself before I left for the game. At this point I was hysterical. I checked to see the time, it was already 15 mins since the game has started. Oh crap. I quickly wiped away the tears, tied my hair in a pony and ran to my car. There was too much traffic.
Damn this traffic. Damn everything. Damn Finn. I was on the verge of a mental breakdown and kept looking at the watch. Ugh. I had about 20 mins before the game was over. I was never going to make it in time. I horned in desperation.
By the time I reached school I knew I was too late. Everyone was leaving the stadium. But according to what I heard Zack's team had won and he scored a goal. How could I miss this? I felt guilty and knew I needed to find him. I tried his phone but it was switched off. I went to the locker room and searched everywhere I could but he was nowhere. I called him again in desperation. All I knew was that I needed to find Zack and explain everything to him.
