Grian didn't bother making his bed. He walked out of his neo-classical masterpiece and strolled across the bridge. He looked up at the night sky. Stargazing was one of his favorite pass times a while back.

He was too busy working to do it anymore. He stared at the sky in awe before snapping out of it and continuing his journey to the rift.

He started to float down as he trailed off into his thoughts. How come he was the only one who was hearing these noises? There so loud. He wasn't much of a listener but these noises couldn't be avoided.

Shouldn't Mumbo hear them since he's closer? He was so lost in thought he hadn't even noticed he was already at the rift.

He refelt the cold obsidian wall in front of him. Except this time, it was cold, it was hot like fire. He jolted back his hand in suprised. It was night, surely it'd be colder. He was drawn to the heat.

It had to be magic.

He got his ear as close to the wall as possible to listen for the voices. He couldn't hear much. He heard whispering, very faint. He felt a shiver down his spine as he tried to focus on what was being said.

"How are we going to lure him in?" A whisper said.

"Im thinking, now silence yourself." There was more than one whisperer.

"Wait," said the first whisper, "I sense someone listening in on our conversation."

Grian's heart rate rose. The whispering stopped. Grian couldn't hear anything aside from his loud breathing.

His ear almost touching the burning wall until he saw something out of the corner of his eye that made him freeze. Two, faint purple eyes were floating in mid-air, staring right at him.

Watchers.

Grian stepped back from the wall and stared at it in its entirety. He was shook to the core. For weeks watchers have been spying on him using the rift.

They were the noises. They were the reason only Grian could hear them. Grian thought back to what they said. He brought his hand to his mouth to stop from gasping.

They said they had to Lure him. They wanted something, or they were going to do something. Grian was quickly pulled out of his mind when he saw the wall crack.

The watchers were ESCAPING. Grian had no choice but to use his own magic to keep it closed. He brought his hands up and strengthened his stance.

He hands started to glow and his wings seemed to light up as he tried to slow down the ever encroaching crevasse.

His eyes started glowing as everything around him started to float. He pushed harder. Then he saw it. A Watcher. Staring back at him. The first watcher he'd seen since he ran away. He hesitated. That was all they needed.

The Watchers both blasted the rift open together. Sending Grian backwards into the wall. He felt his vision slipping, the world around him dimming.

He fought to keep his eyes open but the more he resisted, the greater the urge was to let go. The last thing he saw before blacking out, was the two Watchers towering above him.

                                        * * *

When he woke up, he wad still in his lab. Alone this time. He opened his eyes to find he could see everything. Behind him, above him, and all around him, even while his head was turned to the floor.
