TW: Bits of homophobia? ( ●__●)
_____

It had been years since Tord moved from Norway and last seen his family. He never really planned on going back once moving, especially after meeting his boyfriend Tom. The two of them were together for almost 5 years when Tord wanted to finally go back home for a visit and introduce Tom to his family. He loved him dearly and pictured the rest of his life with him, so of course he'd want them to meet Tom.

So Tord bought the plane tickets and talked with his parents about staying with them while visiting. All seemed to be planned out well and would be a success! Until they actually arrived. And Tom actually met his parents.

"They're gonna love you!" Tord had assured many times both before and after arriving. Tom doubted it nonetheless all the way through and to his suspicions, and great disappointment, he was right. At least partly.

Tord's father was kind--serious and intimidating, but kind. His English was great! Tom was able to hold a long conversation with him despite not knowing any Norwegian; which he greatly feared while thinking about the trip as well. The two talked about many things but mostly fishing, even having gotten invited to tag along with Tord's father next time he were to go. Tord was pleased and extremely excited to see them get along so well. But his mother was another story entirely.

"You really are a man." She started, first seeing Tom as he came through the front door, hand in hand with Tord. The comment threw both of them off but disregarded it anyway.

As they stayed the first week with Tord's parents, his mother kept her distance from Tom yet clung to Tord constantly. She'd say something odd regarding Tom as well almost everyday, which he took to heart and it weighed him down. Especially so when bringing up the fact that she was upset when they would be unable to bear children of their own. Having complained of the fact that Tom wouldn't be able to do what a woman could. That he wouldn't be able to satisfy and provide for Tord the way a woman could.

Without a doubt, this caused great stress on everyone but especially Tom.

Tord and Tom walked together through the light snowfall of the small town, late at night. They passed an old playground Tord mentioned he'd spend time with a few friends as a child at. Making his way over to the old swing set and taking a seat on the snow covered swing, motioning for Tom to join him.

Tom took his place next to Tord and sighed lightly. "I don't think this was a good idea.." He spoke quietly, gripping the cold metal chains with his gloved hands. He wore a heavy winter jacket filled with fur that Tord had lend him, and big fuzzy gloves. Yet he still shivered at the breeze that hit his reddened cheeks.

"What do you mean? Is it too cold out? We can head back." Tord offered sweetly. He'd been so optimistic of the trip and honestly enjoyed the time he spent with Tom while in Norway again. They got to visit so many cool places and Tord had the privilege of spoiling Tom with all sorts of goodies and dates.

Tom shook his head, "No.." he started. He didn't want to ruin Tord's mood or make him feel bad so he took his sweet time trying to think of the nicest way of putting his thoughts into words. "I just.. Your parents- mom. Your mom hates me." Tom shifted uncomfortably on the rubber seat, being squished by the chains and unable to keep his balance from fidgeting. "You shouldn't have brought me to Norway."

Staring intensely at the ground, Tom avoided any and all eye contact with his boyfriend. He refused to look at him, scared to see what awfully sad face he'd be making. And an awfully sad face Tord would have.

"What?" He couldn't believe what Tom had said. After everything he did to get him here and the things they did while they stayed. Tord was nearly angry with what Tom said, but mostly hurt. "I thought you were having fun. You had fun right? Especially at the park we went to!" He paused. "And.. Gosh Tom, my mother doesn't hate you. She's always been like this with anyone I've been with. She's overprotective."
