Y/n's POV

It was the end of June, and I couldn't be happier that summer was in full swing. I had finished my first full year of school in I don't know how long, but it had taken a lot of work. Between classes and trying to strategize and prepare for the upcoming war against Kronos, I had zero free time. And with most of my focus on the demigod side of things, it took a lot for me to pass my classes. But now it was officially summer, and for the moment, I was set on having fun.

We had just finished dinner, and all the campers were hanging out at the dining pavilion. Yesterday, the Hephaestus cabin had captured the flag from the Ares cabin during Capture the Flag, with me and Percy's help of course, and now the Ares cabin was out for blood. It took a bit of convincing, but we managed to get Chiron to allow us to play again, hence why everyone was excited tonight. On the blue team was Hephaestus' cabin, Apollo, Hermes, and Poseidon. The bad news was that for once, Athena and Ares - both war god cabins - were against us on the red team, along with Aphrodite, Dionysus, and Demeter, with Athena's cabin holding the other flag.

"Hey, Seaweed Brain. Y/n," Annabeth greeted.

"Will you stop calling me that?" Percy groaned.

"You know you love it," Annabeth countered.

"It suits you, Percy," I agree. "And be glad you have a nickname."

"Technically you have one too," Percy pointed out. "Its-"

"Percy, if you call me Squirt I swear to the gods," I threaten.

"I mean, Percy's right. That is a nickname," Annabeth mentioned.

"It's a stupid nickname," I claim. "People used to call me that because I couldn't use my powers. But now I can. So we're done with that nickname, okay?"

Percy raised his hands up in surrender. "Okay. You guys ready for the game tonight?"

"We're going to crush you tonight," Annabeth spoke. "But if you guys pick a safe position, like right flank, for instance, I'll make sure you don't get pulverized too much."

"Wow. That's so thoughtful of you. Thanks, Annabeth," I say. "But we're planning to win tonight. We've got Apollo, Hermes, and Hephaestus. You're going down."

"We've got Ares," Annabeth noted.

"Who we just beat yesterday," Percy chimed in.

Annabeth laughed. "Whatever. See you on the battlefield."

"I honestly can't remember the last time Poseidon didn't ally with Athena for Capture the Flag," Percy confessed.

"Because it hasn't happened while you've been at camp," I state.

"Really?" Percy questioned.

"Yep," I reply. "As long as you've been here, we've always played with Athena. Annabeth and I created a lifelong alliance when we were kids after an incident we had, and its stuck. Until today."

"What incident?" Percy asked.

"We had a fight when we were kids. I think I was 8 and she was 9. Annabeth was upset with me for wanting to have archery with the Apollo kids because up to that point, I had basically followed the Athena kids schedule. I told her I wanted to practice with kids that could shoot well so that they could teach me how to get better, and she took it the wrong way."

"So what happened after that?" Percy quizzed.

"That week was brutal," I comment. "We didn't talk at all. Not once. And Capture the Flag was not any better. I mean, I think it was the longest game ever played. Annabeth and I were on opposing sides, and I found her by the creek trying to sneak across to grab our flag. The two of us fought for who knows how long. We didn't stop until the game was over. My side won, by the way. When the game was over, the two us talked, and I told Annabeth that hanging out with her and her cabin mates all the time made people think I was ashamed of my godly parent, or new campers automatically assumed Athena was my mom too. Not that being called a child of Athena is a bad thing but.....I just wanted to be my own person, you know? I'm proud to be a daughter of Poseidon, even though it took a while for me to get there since a lot of people, the other gods included, think we're mistakes. Annabeth was super understanding, and from then on, I started doing different camp activities with different cabins, like you're used to. And that night we made an alliance with the promise that we'd never let anything stupid affect our friendship."
