Hades' Palace

Y/n's POV

We neared the outer walls of the palace, the bronze gates towering above us. On them were scenes of death etched into the metal. Wars, famine, crime. Anything you could image, it was there. The gate was open, so the four of us strolled in. The first thing we came across was a beautiful garden that stood out against the dark colors of the Underworld. Multicolored plants and fruits hung from trees and vines. Jewels bloomed in various colors on bushes, and piles of gems littered the floor. In the center of the garden, there was an orchard of pomegranate trees.

"The garden of Persephone," Annabeth announced. "Keep walking."

While the garden was gorgeous, we had to move on. All I wanted to do was eat one of the juicy pomegranates that hung from the tree, but I couldn't. One bite of Underworld food, and you'd be trapped here forever. We walked up the steps of the palace and through some columns, leading us into the entry hall. The polished bronze floor glowed orange in the light of the torches. There was no ceiling, just the cavern high above us. At every doorway, skeleton guards were decked out in military gear that varied. There were skeletons wearing Greek armor, British redcoat uniforms, camouflage...any time of war related thing you could imagine. Thankfully, none of the skeletons bothered us, but their eyes followed our retreating figures down the hall.

"So what do we do? Knock?" Percy suggested.

The doors then swung open on their own, revealing the throne room of Hades' palace. And on said throne, which was made of fused human bones, was the god himself. He was at least 9 feet tall, dressed in a black silk robe and a crown made of gold. His skin was pale, and he had jet black hair that reached his shoulders. The thing that creeped me out the most were his eyes. You could see the whites of his eyes, but his irises were pitch black.

"You are brave to come here, Son of Poseidon," Hades announced. "After what you have done to me, very brave indeed. Or perhaps you are simply very foolish."

Percy stepped forward. "Lord and Uncle, I come with two requests. There can't be a war among the gods. It would be bad. Return Zeus's master bolt to me. Please, sir. Let me carry it to Olympus."

"You dare keep up this pretence, after what you have done?" Hades seethed.

"Um, you keep saying 'after what I've done'," Percy brought up. "What exactly have I done?"

"Do you think I want war, godling?" Hades bellowed. Do you think I need more subjects? Did you not see the sprawl of Asphodel? Have you any idea how much my kingdom has swollen in this past century alone, how many subdivisions I've had to open? More security ghouls. Traffic problems at the judgment pavilion. Double overtime for the staff. I used to be a rich god, Percy Jackson. I control all the precious metals under the earth. But my expenses! And don't get me started on Charon! He's been impossible ever since he discovered Italian suits! Problems everywhere, and I've got to handle all of them personally. The commute time alone from the palace to the gates is enough to drive me insane! And the dead just keep arriving. No, godling. I need no help getting subjects! I did not ask for this war.!

"But you took Zeus's master bolt," Percy pointed out.

"Lies!" Hades yelled and rose from his throne. "Your father may fool Zeus, boy, but I am not so stupid. I see his plan. You were the thief on the winter solstice. Your father thought to keep you his little secret. He directed you into the throne room on Olympus. You took the master bolt and my helmet. Had I not sent my Fury to discover you at Yancy Academy, Poseidon might have succeeded in hiding his scheme to start a war. But now you have been forced into the open. You will be exposed as Poseidon's thief, and I will have my helmet back!"

"Wait," Annabeth interjected. "Lord Hades, your helmet of darkness is missing, too?"

"Do not play innocent with me, girl. You and the satyr and the other child of Poseidon have been helping this hero - coming here to threaten me in Poseidon's name, no doubt - to bring mean ultimatum. Does Poseidon think I can be blackmailed into supporting him?" Hades asked.
