❝ "Isabel Conklin, daughter of John Conklin and Laurel Park. A student at Chesterbrook High School where she is captain of the varsity volleyball team."
It was Bellys turn and I had to fight back my tears when I see her walking towards Conrad, meeting him in the middle of the stage. I was so happy for her, I'm so glad it all worked out in the end. They really looked like a match made in heaven.
Now that Belly left, I can see Jeremiah clearly standing opposite of me, waiting for our turn. He really looked like a Disney prince in his suit, with his golden curls and tanned skin. I think he must have been made for movie screens. He gave me a big reassuring smile, which I returned.
"Julia Conklin, daughter of John Conklin and Laurel Park. A student at Chesterbrook High School where she is captain of the cheerleading team."
It was our turn now. We slowly walk towards each other, stopping in the middle. He holds out his arm for me, which I take. The smile still on his face. "You're a goddess," he tells me.
I laugh, "You ever say that to me again, I'll throw up all over you."
I can see the grin forming on his face as we smile for the pictures.
"Julia is also an avid swimmer and this year raised $6,000 for the county women's shelter."
We step down the stairs to our family's table where I gave Susannah my bouquet, since mom already got one from Belly. We were told we must give the flowers to our moms, but Susannah was that for us too. She wanted us to be debutantes so badly, I just wanted to make this moment even more special for her.
She was surprised but stood up smiling, giving me the proudest hug. "Thank you for everything, Susannah," I whisper into her ear and make my way back to Jeremiah.
I curtsy towards them. "How was the curtsy?" I asked Jere. He gave me the biggest smile, "The queen would be proud."
After joking with Jeremiah I see my mom leave the table. She didn't look too happy either. "Where is my mom going?" I ask Jere panicked. He shrugs, "She'll be right back, don't worry Jules."
I couldn't worry about it too long, since Paige continues with her speech, "It is my honor to introduce this year's Cousins Beach Country Club debutantes." My heart starts pounding as everyone applauds for us. Now it was getting serious. I curtsy again, looking at Jeremiah, chuckling at him.
When mom still wasn't there after the whole speech, Belly also started worrying. "I'm going to get them before the escort dance starts," Jeremiah tells me and rushes off.
He made my heart melt. Jere really wanted tonight to be perfect for me, I couldn't help but pout in awe at his thoughtful action.
