"Nervous?"Anakin asked me as we stood in our Jedi robes in a rose-surrounded arborfrom which the large, sparkling lake could be ogled. In response to my brother, I exhaled deeply as I fixed my Jedi robe. "Very nervous." I muttered, turning and smiling nervously at the droids next to me, who were the only guests with Anakin. "What if she doesn't show up, Anakin?"
"Have you gone completely mad?" Anakin asked incredulously, chuckling as he patted me on the back. "Of course she'll show up, you daft twat! She loves you. Completely." "Yeah, yeah, you're right." I exhaled deeply once again, trying to calm my nerves.
"You can be glad Obi Wan is not here with Maven. He would be very grumpy." Anakin laughed, trying to be funny and lighten the mood, but I merely punched him in the shoulder, my glare fixed on my twin brother. "This isn't funny." I grumbled, but my nerves went back up when I heard footsteps.
I turned around and felt like my heart could jump out of my chest at any moment, it was beating so fast because of excitement. Or maybe it was panic. Maybe fear. Maybe reassurance - knowing that I would soon be one with my soulmate.Without knowing it, I held my breath.
Padme walked towards me, her white dress seemingly even brighter than imagined in the sunshine. She looked breathtakingly stunning. Her hair curled and draped around her shoulders, her makeup light. A chain with a familiar pendant dangled around her neck.
"Still nervous?" Anakin whispered in my ear teasingly, and I gave a discreet nod. I felt tears flood the rims of my eyelids at the immense beauty before me. She was marching with her head held high, wearing a small smile on her lips that seemed to rid me of all my previous anxiousness.
My eyes remained fixed on Padme as she reached me, while the peeps from the two astromech droids fluttered quietly in the background. Padme and I turned to each other and the pastor of Naboo, whom she had arranged, raised his hands to read the ancient scriptures of the marriage.
"Friends." He began, adressing the droids and my brother, right after he exchanged brief smiles with Padme and me who stood before him. "We are gathered here today to celebrate the union of Timothee Skywalker and Padme Amidala..."
I was aware that I should probably pay more attention to the man'swords, though I was unusually distracted today. No matter how hard I tried to fight it,I couldn't stop looking at my soon-to-be wife. Luckily, even in such a state, I could vaguely hear what the pastor was saying.
"Do you, Timothee Skywalker, take Padme Amidala to be your wife? Will you love her and stand by her side through darkness and light, through triumph and tribulation, until death do you part?"
"I do." I answered almost immediately, my voice- even though I had no idea how it was possible under the circumstances - became strong and confident. Padme widened her smile a bit at this. Out of the corner of my eye, I could see as the pastor nodded in approval.
"And do you,Padme Amidala, take Timothee Skywalker as your husband? Will you love him and stand by his side through darkness and light, through triumph and tribulation, until death do you part?"
"I do."Came the immediate answer from the bride. For a second, I had no clue that I was holding my breath when the pastor asked Padme the question, but as soon as she gave the positive answer, I breathed a sigh of relief.
"...then I declare you bonded for life." I was so lost in my thought that I barely could hear what the pastor was saying but I could tell that Anakin was crying, while the droids C-3PO, R2-D2 and R8-D8 whispered.
"I now pronounce you husband and wife." The pastor called with a cheery tone of voice. "Timothee, you may now kiss your bride." And with that the pastor stepped away from Padme and me and let the sunset shine on both of us. "Gladly."I beamed, and I didn't have to be told twice.
I grabbed both of her hands and placed them in my hands. Or better: into my hand. Because only one of my arms was still real. The other hand was made of metal, wires and sensors since my duel with Count Dooku on Geonosis.
An artificial appendage that almost-but-never-really moves exactly the way I wanted it to. But at least I got better with it. Besides, even though the prosthesis felt so unnatural to her, Padme reacted just as tenderly to her mechanical touch as she did to my own.
I leaned then towards Padme, who smiled at me happily, and gently pressed my lips to hers. Our kiss was slow and quite romantic, for we wanted to enjoy our first kiss as a married couple as long as we could, neither of us wishing for it to end.
We were so lost in our kiss that we completely ignored the cheers and whistles from the droids and my brother,as well as the sound of the water gently lapping against the stone bottom of the lake.
"I love you,Timothee." Padme breathed once we parted for air. "I love you too,Padme." I replied, well aware that our whole life was ahead of us, a life I was so thankful to live. "Always."
