The camp was led by sheriff's deputy - Shane, and its main base of operations was RV which belonged to the old man- Dale. Charlie found out that right after the outbreak, all members of the camp headed toward Atlanta for safety and protection. However, as soon as they got there, they found out that the city was overrun. That's how Shane and Lori decided to set up an outpost at the quarry near the main road. Soon other survivors eventually saw the survivors and joined them at the campsite.
As the camp grew, they established some rules crucial for the life of the community. For example, the men were assigned to hunting, scavenging, and protecting the camp while the women were assigned to cooking, cleaning, and childcare - which Charlie personally didn't like because it was the end of the world, so those stupid divisions shouldn't matter.
At first, she was doing what she was told and just observing others, to kind of get to know them before she decided to talk to them.
That's why at first she thought that Lori was married to Shane and Carl was their son. They acted pretty intimate and the thing that they disappeared together in the woods, didn't slip her. Also, they came here together and established the camp, so it wasn't her to blame.
Lori herself was a very strong and selfless woman, she cared about Charlie and felt sorry for this whole greeting thing. But as good as she was as demanding and bossy she was too. Often she was just sitting or walking around pointing out what was wrong or what should be done. Charlie bit her tongue most of the time because she didn't want to be ungrateful, but when she had a choice she rather keep her distance from Lori.
The same was with Carl. He was the most annoying child she had ever met. And of course, he was traumatized and all, but that didn't change the fact that he had the hard character of a kid that used to have everything. He was shy and reserved, but he was doing whatever he wanted and most of the time Lori just didn't know where he was. Another very annoying feature of Carl was that he was trying his best to comfort those closest to him when he recognized that they were in need.
Because Charlie didn't need a ten-year-old boy to pat her back, because he knew shit. In other words, she kept him as much at a distance as she could, but he was near her most of the time as he liked to play with Sophia.
Sophia was her favorite and probably the only kid that she cared about in the camp. From the beginning, Charlie knew that she was afraid of the world and her father couldn't give her the comfort that she needed. Sophia's mom tried to be there for her, but she also had to make her husband happy, so she couldn't give her as much attention as she would want. At first little girl was shy, but soon enough Charlie found a way to the little girl's heart.
Carol was very grateful for that, she was grateful for Charlie because thanks to her, kids could forget about the horrors of the world - especially her little girl. At first, Carol didn't say much, she was giving her soft smiles, but as days passed by, she opened up more. She was observant- just like Charlie, and a soft-spoken woman. She didn't say much either way but was very smart. All she cared about was the well-being of her family, even her abusive husband Ed, who was just a piece of shit.
