Third Eye POV
"Dante...you have to eat dear. Quickly, select something from the menu before the nice waitress comes..." Mara shoved the open menu in front of Dante's sour face, trying to persuade her son to choose something. It was true that Dante's stomach had been growling loudly since they left the compound's infirmary, but his thoughts wandered back to the sorrowful face of his beloved Damien, before Mara bewitched him with her powers, making the poor young man fall in a dead faint at their feet.
Dante obliged, simple to appease his mother, by ordering a chicken burger, fries and a coke to wash it down. After ordering, he gazed out of the window, his sadness consuming him.
The young agent closed his eyes, opening his mind, hoping to contact his lover, but found his thought waves blocked by a very disgruntled Ilya, who glared at his son, whom he now quietly reprimanded.
"I will not warn you again, Dante. They must not know where we are for their own safety, is that clear?" Ilya stared deeply into his son's eyes, reading the pain and longing in them.
"Look, I can understand how difficult it must be for you, as it is for us. But staying there in that facility, could only mean that we'd be poked and prodded to no end, and frankly your mother and I have had enough of that...please understand..." Ilya swallowed hard, noticing a flicker of the dark obsidian creep into his son's eyes. He eventually breathed a sigh of relief when the darkness dissipated from Dante's eyes.
The man clutched his son's hand, and whispered, 'Thank You' just before the waitress came back with their orders. As the woman settled the heavily-laden plates down upon the table, she turned to Dante and winked at him before moving away.
"She fancies you I think" Mara teased, while Dante glared back with a scowl upon his face. He said nothing but dove into his fries and burger ravenously. Mara could not help but giggle at her son's reaction, while Ilya rolled his eyes in merriment, clearly enjoying his own meal of fish and chips with an accompanying green salad.
Mara's chicken Kiev stood up to the photograph in the menu. She smacked her lips as she tucked into it, while calmly observing her son, as he completely devoured his meal.
"I didn't realize you were THAT hungry. Would you like to order something more, my son?" She reached for the menu again, but Dante caught her hand, holding it in his grasp.
"What's wrong? What's the matter?" She whispered, as her son hitched his breath. Two men, dressed casually were hovering around their car, sporting ear pieces. It was clear that they were talking into them, while trying to behave normally.
"The car..." He calmly muttered under his breath, as Ilya peered behind the menu, watching the two men as they continued to scan the license plate and check the exterior.
"Yes, sir, it is definitely the car, which means they'll be in the vicinity. I understand, sir. Proceed with caution..." Agent Fahey answered his superior, giving a nod to his colleague, Agent Mason.
"They could be anywhere...but...hold on...I think we've got them. Zack's sensory device has registered three heat signatures indicating that they're in the diner, right behind us, seated in the corner booth..." He relayed to Darius, who nodded to Bry and Bron who were listening intensely to the conversation. Damien sat in the corner of the office, staring out onto the immense lawn, with a million things running through his mind.
"What are they doing?" Darius asked.
"They're eating, sir" He concluded, without turning his head.
"Move away from the vehicle carefully. Under no circumstances are you to engage them. We don't want the public's curiosity to get the better of them, nor do we want to draw unnecessary attention. They're probably being watched by whatever organisation is interested in them...Are we clear?" Darius cautioned.
"Yes sir" as both Agents Fahey and Mason quietly withdrew from the area, pretending to make themselves scarce but ducking behind the parking lot awaiting the signal to go in...as a familiar black sedan drove up a block away from the diner. Damien opened the car door, and snuck in the back, sliding in unnoticed via the kitchen, followed by Bron and their father, Darius with Bry not too far behind.
Dante's parents sat munching away, strangely engrossed in their meals, as if they were eating with blinkers on, with Dante smirking to himself, thinking, 'You're not the only one who can do mind blocking, papa..."
Dante perked up, sensing Damien's presence close by, his heart leaping slightly in his chest, hoping...hoping for the moment that he could hold him in his arms again. That kind of thinking severed the mind-link abruptly, sending his parents into a complete tail-spin, seeing the agents looming up towards them.
Mara shrieked as she pulled up Ilya from the bench. Ilya in turned yanked Dante up, in an effort to distract them by sending plates flying at the agents who ducked and rolled as a barrage of cutlery flew right at them. Mara began pushing Dante towards the door, but he protested, citing his need to be with his beloved.
The other agents cleared the people from the area, under the false pretense of a very rare virus with the Andreascus as possible carriers, hence the hastily arranged barricade out front, sealing off the diner.
"Mara, Ilya...please...let us talk...We can take care of things...You don't have to run...You're safe with us...We have dealt with your kind before..." Darius calmly extended out his arms, in a display of friendship, not wanting to alarm them.
"Have you really?" Mara enquired in a mocking tone, "Do you truly understand what exactly you're dealing with here? Darius...we are from another planet similar to yours. But we are not alone...There are others and they're not as approachable as we are..." Mara screamed as a tiny missile flew in their direction.
Dante averted the damn thing with a flick of his wrist, as if it was made of nothing, curious as to where it actually came from. Breaking free of Mara's grasp, he rushed out the door, to see a fleeting car spin off the driveway, until...
"Dante...Dante...NO!!!" Ilya yelled, but his son ignored his cries, as the vehicle's wheels spun wildly, slowly levitating off the gravel road, its' inhabitants flailing and bouncing like a couple of yo-yos inside.
Human spectators stood in shock, watching as the car did a double backflip before crashing upside-down, allowing agents Fahey and Mason to pull out the perpetrators and arrest them.
"Umm...just what on earth were you thinking doing that in broad daylight???" Ilya reprimanded his head-strong son, who shrugged nonchalantly.
"No worries, I'll just wipe their minds clean of what they saw" He replied, and proceeded to do exactly that, as his father stood in awe, watching his son 'do his thing'...
