"Hey Cole" Violet sang as she pushed the door open dropping her bag onto the kitchen table "I'm home you lazy bastard where you hidin?"

"I thought we could go out tonight, you know like old times. But maybe with out all the illegal stuff" she called again, kicking off her boots and throwing her jacket over a chair, noticing how the apartment was weirdly clean of all his random junk,

"Cole" she tried,

Checking the living room,

Empty

"You in ere?" She puzzled looking in the bathroom,

Empty

Her heart fell into her stomach as she grew more frantic, looking under the sofa and chairs even though she knew he wouldn't be there. Tearing her apartment to pieces.

"Cole stop fucking around it's not funny" She cried out, her whole body growing jittery and cold,

Cole had always been a pro at hide and seek when we were kids.

Violet threw open her front door not caring for shoes or a coat, running out into the street.

I'd stand on the porch with my hands over my eyes, counting.

"COLE! COLE!" She shouted, her head whipping around so fast she could of gotten whip lash,

As soon as I was done I'd shout 'here I come' knowing I was  definitely losing this game.

Feeling helpless she scampered to the nearest phone box she could find, her fingers so frozen she could barely dial the numbers to his cell.

I'd search everywhere, under the beds, in the kitchen cupboards and even up in the trees.

"C'mon Cole pick up" she muttered before it went to voicemail,

He would always win every time.

"Pick up!" She demanded,

'I give up, you win!' I'd shout and like magic, he'd appear with a cheeky smile on his face and a mischievous glint in his eyes.

Yet again went to voicemail,

'You'll get me next time Lottie, I'm sure' he'd tell me.

"PICK UP!" She fumed, punching the receiver over and over until her knuckles drew red with blood,

But I never did.

Tears spilt down her cheeks as she slowly dropped to the floor, still clutching the phone in hope he'd call,

Cole plays hide and seek like he plays life.

"Why won't you pick up?" She sobbed knowing that she'd never get an answer,

One minute he's there and the next he's gone, and he's only ever found if he wants to be...

Violets POV

I walked and walked until my feet ached so much I took to slumping down besides a grimy wall. My whole body was shaking from the cold since I'd left my scarf, coat and boots in my apartment. I fumbled around In my pocket until I found my cigarettes and lighter, weakly lifting it to my lips, lighting it, watching as the smoke left my lips and disappeared off into the dark sky. I had no intention of going home, not yet at least it was all to new, to raw to face going back there.
