Chapter 19

“That’s all we get after waiting nearly 9 hours just to speak to you in private?” Danielle asks, with amusement in her voice. I chuckle and pull her into a hug. I exchange hugs with everyone, and linger for one a bit longer in Niall’s arms. I can’t help it; he has a smell like no other.

“9 hours though? That would have meant that you were here since 11…” I trail off, thinking. My eyes light up.

“Did you guys see my run then?!” I ask excitedly. They all grin and nod their heads furiously. My heart soared. No one out of the horse community other than Lily, who now had a horse, so it doesn’t really count, ever came to watch me. My parents never did, making things difficult for me when I was a kid.

“It means a lot, thank you…” I say, wiping a tear that rolled down my cheek. Niall pulled me into another hug, snuggling his face into my neck. It felt so good, so naturally I hugged him back. The others quickly came into a group hug. I laughed, pushing them all away.

“But in all honesty, that was one of the scariest things I have ever watched.” Liam said, looking at me dead in the eye. I blushed and looked at the others, who were nodding with him.

“It’s not even that bad, you bunch of babies.” I scold them, laughing. They all looked at me in disbelief, like I had grown two heads or something.

“Not bad?! You could fall at any moment, break something, and you’re running so fast!” Eleanor shouts at me. I laugh in her face. “Of course she runs fast, her father was a track horse!” I exclaim. The look at me, with their jaws dropped. “That’s common here, you know.” I state.

I look at the time on my phone and I also noticed a missed text from Trey;

Where did you go? We all went to bed, and ill wake you up in the morning. Night.

I sighed, knowing that my 2 minutes with the group has run out.

“I know we barley talked but I have to go. I slept in this morning and I really don’t want that to happen again tomorrow. Plus I’m 6th in the draw so I have to be up extra early to get a good warm up in. But thanks so much for coming out it means a lot to me.” I tell them with a genuine smile on my face. They all nod understandingly.

“We brought a camper up and were staying to watch your poles run; you’re not getting rid of us that fast!” Niall says, grinning like a mad-man. My mouth pops open.

“Seriously?!” I shout, not believing a word they say. The all nod at me and I pull them into a hug once again.

“I promise I’ll sneak away after my run and we can hang out for a bit. But I really have to go, bye!” I shout, jogging away from them. They all walk away in the opposite direction from me and I can’t help but wonder what would make them want to come and watch me.

I kicked my boots of at the door of the trailer and slowly opened the door, making sure I was as quiet as possible. Once I was inside, I carefully shut the door, stripped of my show shirt, and full on my bunk, falling asleep in my clothing, with a smile on my face.

The morning had come faster than I had expected. I awoke to Trey’s face right up in mine as he lightly shook my shoulder. I screamed and jerked my head back, slamming it into the wall. Trey and Debby were in hysterics as I rubbed my head, heading to the bathroom. I brushed my teeth and hair, and then tied it into a low pony tail. Then I changed into my other wranglers, and this time a hot pink tank top. I exited the bathroom and made my way to the living room where Debby, Trey, and Kristen were waiting. Once they saw me, they stood up and we made our way to the barns.
