Chapter 26

“Hurry up Ella!” I screamed through the door.

“Just a sec!” came her quick reply. I began to tap my foot on the floor impatiently. About a minute later, Ella came strutting though the door. She twirled in a circle in front of me, her now curled hair spinning in all directions. She wore a new sweater that she had gotten from mom, along with a pair of new Wrangler jeans and new cowboy boots. She also put on a new necklace and earnings that matched.

“You look good Ells. But we gotta go, your brother is getting impatient.” She groaned.

“He’s always impatient. But you look good by the way, too.” I grinned and we walked out the door. I was wearing almost the same thing as Ella, but instead of a sweater, I wore a loose tank-top, along with a grey cardigan. I had also straightened my hair to perfection.

We made our way down the stairs, and from what we could hear, Kathleen was giving Nathan the, ‘don’t let her get hurt’ talk. I smirked. I had already gotten that one. “Kay, gotta go mom, bye!” I heard Nathan say quickly and making a run out of the kitchen. Grabbing our coats and mittens, we made our way over to the shed. You could see the tracks in the snow from where the others had gone before us. And by looks of the smoke in the distance, they had already made it to the cabin.

Nathan groaned at the sight, cursing us under his breath. I smacked him in the arm and grabbed our three helmets while he quickly put gas in the snowmobile. Then we all climbed on, and took off through the fields.

Before I knew it, we were getting off. Nathan now had a smile on his face; riding the skidoo always made him happier. We brushed the snow off our jackets and jeans and then made our way inside. Everyone had claimed a seat on the couch, but had stood up to greet us, well mainly me.

“It’s our famous Ashley! Good to see you!” said Jackson, as he squished me into a bear hug. Next was Kelsey, then Lily, and a few new-comers.

“Ash, this is Alex. Alex, this is Ashley.” Ella said with a twinkle in her eye. Alex shook my hand like a gentleman would and I could swear I hear Ella giggle. Alex looked to be about 17, he had short, brown hair, with a muscular build. I winked at Ella, who began to immediately blush. Alex grinned at her and they both went over to the table to grab a beer.

I went a grabbed my own after I took in the surroundings. Nothing had changed, except for another couch and table that were added. Everyone was sitting in a chair around the table and were playing cards. I took my beer and sat next to Nathan, watching the game.

“BULL SHIT!” Cried Ella making Jackson laugh as Nathan picked up all the cards in the pile. I gave him a side hug, resting my head on his shoulder. Ella had set her cards down to take a picture and I made sure to pull a stupid face for it. Once the flash went off, I pulled my head up and pinched Nathan’s cheek like a grandmother would do to a baby. “You have never been good at this game; I don’t understand why you play.” Fake shock registered on his face as he gasped in a posh accent, “I don’t know what you’re talking about!” We all laughed at then cleared the cards away.

“Never have I ever?” I asked and cheers erupted around the table.

“Okay, everyone’s cans in front of them.” I ordered as we all got comfy.

“Never have I ever… kissed or been kissed by someone on the first date.” Nathan started off. Everyone but Alex and Ella took a swig. I raised my can to Alex. “You’re a good man.” He laughed and went next.

“Never have I ever… went skinny dipping.” Nathan, Lily, and I grinned at each other, and took a sip. Alex hesitantly took one too.

“Never have I ever been in a bar fight.” Ella went next. Nathan and Jackson took sips simultaneously, and Ella and I burst into laughter. Everyone else looked at us like we were crazy or belonged in an asylum.
