Chapter 33
The next month was pretty un-eventful. Talia’s progress hadn’t changed so I didn’t need to spend as much time in the stall. The crutches were really bothering my shoulders so I threw those away and just decided on putting pressure on my leg, which actually wasn’t too sore. Sonia and I had gotten closer over the week, much to Nathan’s displeasure. He seems to think that I will tell her stories of us being stupid, but I wouldn’t do that. I actually really like this girl, so there is no way that I would scare her off. Besides, who knows when Nathan will ever attract another girl?
When I wasn’t in Talia’s stall, I was doing the indoor chores since they didn’t want me slipping on the ice, doing more damage. I was fine with that, it was nice and warm in the barn, and all I had to do was throw down hay from the hay loft, put it in the hay stall, and distribute that. I also had to put their halters on in the morning while I was giving them their grain. After they went out, I would measure their feed for the night and clean their stalls. I missed barn chores; they made me feel less spoiled.
I only went outside when I had to, which was to shower and eat. Once this week they managed to convince me to have a sleepover in my room with Sonia, Lily, Kelsey, and Ella. It was a lot of fun, but I kept on having that feeling of guilt in my stomach because Talia was alone in the barn. When the sun rose, I was the first person to jump out of bed and get over as quickly as possible. They didn’t push me to have another one again.
Niall and I have mainly only texted because they’re really busy with their world tour, which started two weeks ago. When we can, we try to make calls but he is always busy with signings and such, or he is just plain tired. I still talk to the girls though.
They’re doing the same route that they did for the Take Me Home Tour, but a couple more stops in Canada now that they know that they have a lot more fans here. I missed him a lot.
I’ve also started to helped to teach lessons when the others can’t. A lot of the kids want my autograph, which is a little strange but I sign them anyways. The grin so widely, it’s adorable. I’ve had a few directioners who need lessons, and they always ask about the boys. I can’t really say anything because I truthfully don’t know anything. I’m just lucky that these girls aren’t hard-core fans, because that would make lessons so much harder. After I tell them that I don’t know how they’re doing, they shut up and continue on with their lesson.
Today, our vet was going to come in and check on her. Everyone was running around to make sure that everything was spotless. For some reason we want people to think that we are about to keep up with the work load. It’s just something we’ve always done.
Just as we put the last of the dirt and hay into the wheel-barrow, our vet, Dr. Mayer, walked into the barn. “Ashley! It’s great to see you again!” she smiles, stretching her hand out to shake. I return it and lead her to stall that Talia was in. Taking out her bag, she checked her vitals, legs, and where she got her surgery done. She was still a little sensitive there, but not nearly as much as before, which was apparently a good sign.
“I would recommend stall rest for approximately another four to five months. After that, you could try had walking her. That is all I know for now.” She told us curtly before standing and walking over to Kathleen. Handing her a bottle of crushed up vitamins, she bid her goodbyes and walked out the door.
“You need to put these in her feed twice a day; it will help the muscle stay intact so that the recovery process is quicker. It’s like a steroid almost, but it won’t hurt her.” Kathleen told me, handing me the bottle. I nodded and put it next to her other vitamins.
“Hey Ashley, you have an appointment at the hospital to put a boot on so that you don’t have to wear the cast. It’s at 1 o’clock so we should get ready. I’ll drive you.” Nathan filled me in. I nodded and check the clock that was mounted on the wall; 11:30.
