Tristan

I walked up to Sushan's house, stomach a bundle of nerves. My hands were shoved deep into my cash filled pockets of my favourite green bomber jacket.

I rang the doorbell and texted Sushan that I was here. The door opened a crack, Sushan peeking his head through timidly. Once he had recognised me, he threw the door wide open, bounding towards me, wrapping me up in an enormous hug.

I grinned widely, nuzzling my nose into his neck. He leaned back keeping his arms around my waist.

"Hi baby~" He murmured, smiling at me. Butterflies soared in my stomach from his tone.

"Hi darling." I replied, tucking a stray strand behind his ear, stroking the delicate skin of his cheek.

I leaned in and pressed a light kiss to his soft lips. He reciprocated hesitantly, worried about people noticing us.

I cut it short, acknowledging his awkwardness. I pulled away from his embrace, lacing our fingers together.

I went to walk, but I felt Sushan remain stock still. I whipped my head around, worried.

I saw a quiet tear roll down his cheek.

I pulled him close to me, enveloping him in another warm embrace. I rubbed his back gently, trying to soothe him.

"I-I'm sorry..." He choked out between sobs.

"Don't be sorry! I should've kissed you in public. I know how you don't like it. I should be the one apologising." I pressed a discreet kiss on his forehead.

The twats at our school would mock us to the point of no return if they ever caught us. I felt my stomach roil with a bitter mix of sorrow and anger.

We don't deserve any of the hate directed towards us, least of all my little angel Sushan, with his halo of golden brown locks and his soulful hazel eyes.

"You'll be safe with me." I whispered into his neck, squeezing him tightly against my body.

He nodded wiping away his tears, small smile creeping up on his face. He pulled away gently keeping me at arm's length.

"Thanks for being the best boyfriend in the world." He whispered. I looked down at my shoes, heat rising to my cheeks. "I mean it, you truly are amazing."

I looked up, smiling and squeezed his hand.

"I can say the same about you, darling." It was his turn to blush, ears tinting scarlet at my comment.

"Let's get there before it gets too late, ok?" I asked, tone appreciative.

He nodded walking along with me, although he slipped his hand out of my grip.

My heart sank in my chest. I wished we didn't have to fear for our reputations, I wished we could act like a straight couple without receiving any unnecessary judgement.

But the world is unfair and we are forced to keep our tender words behind closed doors.
