The Halloween party was tonight, me and James had found a cute couple's costume and we had invited all of our friends and mutuals, including Lola. After I had messaged her the invite, she had called me saying stuff like: "you texted the wrong person" and "wait you actually want me at one of your parties?". Her reactions made me giggle, poor girl has never gotten to experience one of my parties.
Everyone at school has at some point organised a party or at least participated in one. Usually they're drug filled and stuffed with horny teens grinding on one another, the ambiance is too chaotic and cluttered for my taste. So I've decided to throw my own gatherings this year, inviting all of my friends, most of whom are closeted or gays in heavy denial. Lola was the first person I asked to come, after she got over her initial shock, she happily agreed to the chosen date and time. Now, she's been texting me for the past few days, desperate to find a costume idea.
She had finally settled on a simple pirate cosplay, with a black corset and all. James and I were going as Barbie and Ken from the recent movie, equipped with the bright colours of cowgirl Barbie and cowboy Ken. My boyfriend has been joking all week about getting his buddies to perform the song "I'm just Ken".
I sighed, he's a confusing boy. One day, he's endlessly chatting, never shutting up. The next, he's as dry as the Sahara and as cold as the arctic sea. This week, he's been more distant and hangs out more with his friends than with me, I don't mind that of course, I just wish he would talk to me at leat a bit. There were days this week where he just completely ignored me, I was starting to get worried, but then he offered to go shopping for our joint-costume, and everything went back to normal.
Now, I'm sitting in front of my bathroom mirror, whilst jamming out to Lola's playlist. She was sitting in the corner scrolling through her phone, makeup already completed. A few people had arrived slightly early and James was entertaining them as more would soon arrive.
"Will you bite the haaand that feeeeeds youuu? Will you stayyy up on your kneeeees?" The brunette warbled from across the room, head banging to the Nine Inch Nails song that was currently playing. I smiled, showering myself in setting spray, making sure my makeup wouldn't budge over the course of the evening. I rearranged my hair one last time, pushing the long blonde strands to the front of my face.
"You got the lyrics wrong." I stated.
"Huh?" She looked up from her phone.
"It's : "Will you bite the haaaaand that feeeeds youuu? Or will stay down on your kneeees?"" I sang, using my skills effortlessly. She rolled her eyes and went back to doom-scrolling.
"How do I look?" I asked, Lola got up and walked over, placing her elbow on my shoulder, her face taking on a flirty privateer-esque expression.
"Just divine." She drawled, a huge sleazy grin blooming across her features. I stared at her, rolling my eyes, ever the theatre kid.
"Yeah, yeah, don't drool too much though, I have a boyfriend." I commented, using a rather stereotypical mean girl tone on the last word. She rolled her eyes in turn, tutting as she ambled towards the door, taking slow leisurely steps instead of her usual power walk.
I joined her and pushed the door open, stepping through dramatically even though no one was there to see us on the other side. Lola puffed out a small bubbled of laughter, flashing her killer, but rare, smile.
"Shall we?" I asked, extending out my arm, she happily wrapped her own around it, sticking close to my side as we descended the stairs to the music playing below. As we strolled through the living room, Matthew, my younger brother, ran up to us, half full cup of some suspicious cocktail in his grasp.
