I soon realized that this, was a nightmare.
I had no Ridlin pads, and it had been well over twenty four hours since I had used one. The medicine was well out of my system, and I could feel it.
Oh, how I could feel it.
I was almost glad though. Glad, in a sense, that because my mind thought of nothing but sleep, I couldn't think about my horrid dream the night before.
I couldn't dwell on the decision I made.
Following Rook out the door, walking became a mindless following of a tattered white shirt and blonde hair, keeping my eyes open just enough to see Rook and match her steps. I couldn't pay attention to the sun hitting my face, nor the people surrounding me, almost increasingly.
My head drooped, and I felt my shoulder hit a wall. Inhaling sharply, my eyes immediately opened again, and I walked on.
Nobody saw it happen.
I kept walking, walking, walking.I felt the scenery change when I looked up at a massive, old style train. Some were dressed up as if to masquerade, others looking very wealthy. I was guessing it was a tourist train of some sort, a vintage glance into the past.
Q walked past that and to an empty track. Rook stopped suddenly, and so did I, bumping into her slightly.
"It will be here soon." Q said, his mask that scrambled his voice on again. It only just hit me then, despite everything.
The voice disguise sounded just like Lawliet's.
I sighed.
"Prespice!"
I turned.
Am I imagining this? No, no, I can't be. This is real...
Orpheria was running towards us, her arms outstretched and her eyes filled with tears. The girl had to be no older than thirteen, her hair purple like Prespice's and eyes a lighter shade of green.
Ople Rince. 'The Oracle.'
She was much like her brother, just a different tone of mastery, one of the tongue. She could memorize languages in single nights. I had overheard once that she learned Chinese in three days.
Not only that, but she was also gifted in a sense of song and eloquence. Of all the gifted at Wammy's, I have never seen one so universally beneficial; she could be practically normal.
Except, of course, she wasn't.
Prespice's arms at first didn't move, but as I saw his face contort in realization, he hugged her tightly as his muffled response brought tears to his eyes.
A joyful reunion.
But then Orpheria began to speak.
"Kira..." She sniffled once, her fingers still clutched to Prespice's shirt, as if he would melt without her presence, "He tortured me...my wrists, he..." Her hands let go only to show the scars on her bony wrists. I gasped.
"The same scars..." I mumbled.
"He what?!" Prespice saw the markings too, but I could tell his mind was too clouded to make the connection.
"When..." Orpheria composed herself then, "When the alarms went off, Kira left me alone. There was one guard, and when he went to hit me, I got him..." Orpheria gripped Prespice again, "I had to get him before he got me, and I did. I escaped, but I didn't know what to do! I hid...I was scared to leave, but I knew I couldn't stay in once place forever." Orpheria's well toned, yet young voice simmered down to almost a whisper, "But then I found you, and now I...I'm just..."
"Safe." Prespice said, "You're safe now, with us." He hugged his little sister tightly again, before she began to cry fresh tears into his shoulder.
The screech of the train pulling in covered up anything else that was said, at least to me it did. I looked to Q, who was already on the train before it stopped completely.
"I wonder what you, the ever so careful Q, thinks of something like this?" I thought absently. I was too tired to make my own deduction.
Nearly moments after I sat in my seat, I fell asleep despite the sharp whistle of the train.*Ten Years Ago*
I stared at the lighter.
Seems like hours, I looked at that thing. What power it had inside it, I knew it would destroy this place.
"This is what I want." I say, as I flick the flame into existence.
"Luke!" The boy. Travis. He scooted the piled up chairs that hid me away one by one.
"I want this..." I stared at Travis. He couldn't do anything.
He'll feel what I felt.
"I want this place to burn!"
I dropped the lighter when Travis screamed. I saw him run, and just as the flame ignited the dust covered clothes, I opened the window.
It only opened so much before the rusted hinges couldn't move any further. I moved outside, just as I heard the crack of wood igniting. Wood burning.
I pushed myself almost halfway out the window when I felt something grab my ankle. I looked back, and saw Travis' hand clasped around my foot.
"Why the heck did you do this?!" He screamed, but I kicked my foot back, as it hit his forehead.
I shoved myself forward, the frame against my side until I heard a thunk. I pushed again, but I looked back this time.
Travis had fallen back like I thought, but had pulled down the window as closed as possible with him. I pushed, tried maneuvering the window, but it was clasped around my stomach tightly, it's old metal refusing to go any further.
I pushed, but I didn't go foreword. I kicked, but nothing happened.
I was stuck.
