Ok I finished it all and I'm glad to say that I liked it a lot! The production and work put into it really shows and I'm glad they got Oda onboard to help them make something great! However, it's still a LA. So, I do have some complaints about this new adaptation. So then, let me start with Zoro.
Now don't get me wrong, I love Zoro! He's one of the main reasons why I chose my username. But in the LA, he's wayyy too emotionless for me. Cuz I know this man is supposed to be stoic and all that, but not this level of stoic. He's super stoic, and still definitely strong, but it just doesn't feel right. After all, East Blue is the funniest arc of One Piece hands down! So, to see Zoro not express himself with that cool personality of his, is just hard to watch. What I'd give for that man to smile. Nevermind, I take all of this back. I finally finished it and I'm proud to say that I thoroughly loved Zoro's character after episode 3.
But they really nailed Nami in this version. She's witty, clever, and as capable as she was before! If anything, she seems even more capable in the beginning, then the original Nami. Which is strange since she's supposed to be using her crew-mates in order to better herself. Which she does ofc, but at the same time, it feels like she'd be good to go all by herself. They also included her original design into the LA and it was a pleasant surprise! Absolutely loved it!
Now as for Luffy, I don't really have many complaints. He's pretty much the same as the Luffy we know and love. Sure he's got quite the accent, but it seems to work well with the character! But Inaki's pretty much got Luffy down to a T. So much so that it's cringey sometimes. At least in my opinion it is.
I can proudly say that Ussop and Yassop definitely switched hairstyles. Cuz before it was Yassop with the locs and Ussop rocking the fro. But now it's the exact opposite of that, and I find it so funny. And as for Sanji, I really liked him in this one. Usually I just see him as a simp screaming "Nami-swannn" or "Robin-chwann", but he actually has more of a personality than that! Plus he kinda hot in the LA ngl. Sign me up for kitchen duty!
And then there's all the other characters: Buggy, Koby, Helmeppo, Milhawk, Garp, and Arlong. And I'm proud to say that I liked them all! They were all such fun characters to watch, although it was weird to see some of them there so early. I was like "how the heck is Garp here?" Same with Arlong, but he's definitely not as far back as Garp. You don't see Garp until the very end of Enies Lobby, which is like 300+ episodes in. So his appearance in the show blindsided me.
But Buggy makes perfect sense. I think you met him in Logue Town where Smoker and Tashigi are first introduced, but don't quote me on that. It's much earlier in the anime, so I wasn't surprised by him. But they totally nailed Buggy in the LA! He was funny, crazy, cocky, and always ridiculous in the weirdest of ways. But he made it work, and I loved seeing my boy Buggy come to life.
But man did the accents surprise me! Not really from the main cast, but from the side characters. It's so different from hearing the Japanese version, to watching it in English with real people. Let alone the British accents, now that really threw me for a loop! But overall it's a good live action, that's taking a step in the right direction!
Also, I liked that they're staying true to the source material. Especially since they have so much of it, how can you possibly get it wrong? But I liked the CGI that they used and makeup team did an excellent job with all the characters! The cast was well done and I love how they all complement each other in every scene. I can't wait for season 2 and to see even more memorable characters join the crew and their wacky shenanigans throughout the next arc!
