Blood adorned everything—the walls, the floor, the windows. It splattered across my scales and clung to Red's massive form, a gruesome reminder of the chaos we'd left behind.
"Come on," the hulking hybrid grunted, his immense strength evident as he plowed through the final barrier, thrusting us both into the blinding embrace of sunlight that had been denied to us for far too long. I forced a weary smile and followed, though I couldn't help but wince, my body protesting every step. The wounds I had sustained pulsed with pain, and I limped slightly as I made my way forward, Red close behind.
"You're hurt, baldy," he hissed, concern etched in his reptilian eyes. His tail lashed, a show of frustration and worry. "I'm so sorry."
I merely gave him a curt nod, not trusting my voice to convey the gratitude within me. We had managed to escape, but the ordeal was far from over. Wu was a relentless adversary, and I couldn't forgive myself for failing to apprehend him during our breakout.
Yet, in the depths of my being, I knew I would survive to fight another day, and perhaps, vengeance would ultimately be ours.
Red and I raced onward, our legs carrying us as swiftly as possible despite the aches and pains courting through our broken bodies. We pushed ourselves until, at last, we stumbled upon a sanctuary—a verdant oasis nestled in the heart of the unforgiving desert. I let out a ragged breath as we sought refuge beneath the welcoming shade of towering trees, their leaves whispering secrets to the wind.
The cooling waters of the oasis provided sweet relief as I knelt to drink, the crystal-clear liquid soothing my parched throat. Red snorted contentedly, his massive form casting shadows upon the sandy ground as he sipped from the life-giving source.
We waited, the desert's oppressive heat gradually yielding to the encroaching night. As the stars emerged, we settled down, our weary bodies finding solace in the shelter of the oasis. For the first time in what felt like an eternity, I closed my eyes, and sleep claimed me, undisturbed by the specter of captivity that had haunted my every waking moment. Peace reigned in this haven, if only for a short while.

"Ripper, wake up," a voice whispered in my ear, pulling me from the depths of slumber. My yellow eyes blinked open, and I found Red's massive form hovering over me, his silhouette casting a long shadow in the early morning sun.
"It is time we go on," he grunted, his voice laden with urgency. With a gentle nudge, he slipped his snout under my body, attempting to hoist me up. I yelped involuntarily as my wounds protested, snapping open like a string of pearls, blood welling out and staining the sandy ground beneath me. I winced in pain as my strength waned.
"Oh no!" Red gasped, panic etching his features. He began to lick frantically at the wound, as if the sheer force of his determination could close it up. But the bleeding wouldn't cease, and I tumbled back to the ground, shivering from the pain and weakness coursing through my battered body.
"Ripper?" Red's voice trembled, fear evident in his eyes as he nudged me, his tongue still working to staunch the flow of blood, but to no avail. Slowly, a realization settled upon me.
"I don't have much time left," I muttered, my voice barely above a whisper. Red stopped his efforts, his eyes wide with alarm. I met his gaze, a solemn understanding passing between us. "Go on," I urged, mustering a weak smile. "You are not as hurt as me. You can make it. Make us all proud."
But Red shook his head frantically and pressed his muzzle against mine. "I won't leave you, not after all you've done for me," he vowed, his determination unwavering.
I sighed but couldn't help but give him a gentle lick on the snout. "Red, you are the future of our hybrids. You won't fall for the humans' schemes again, but I... well," I took a deep breath, examining my own battered form, "I'm broken beyond repair, my friend. Go on and find a blue-gray Velociraptor named Blue. She will help you find a way around here."
Red's clubbed tail thumped heavily against the ground, and his claws twitched, unsure. "I won't leave you," he declared in the end, his loyalty resolute.
"Fine, but at least get something to eat," I urged, nudging his rumbling, heat-bloated stomach. Worry flashed across my features. He might be young and strong, but even he wouldn't survive the unforgiving desert heat without sustenance.
It would be better for both of us if he left, retracing our steps back through the forested paths from which we had come. My thoughts, however, suddenly slowed to a halt, and I felt a creeping darkness envelop me. My eyes rolled back into my skull, and I became oblivious to everything around me, not even hearing the desperate cries of my name or Red's anguished scream, only the overwhelming buzz of silence.

"Clear as a fool you are," a voice growled, and I opened my eyes to find myself in the familiar embrace of darkness, illuminated only by the haunting red eyes of my ancestor, Indy. "Indy," I breathed, my voice filled with a mix of reverence and uncertainty.
The white Indominus smiled, her predatory grin sending shivers down my spine. "You remember me, little one. But how can you be so foolish as to let Red think that you saved him for nothing? He won't be anything without you, Ripper." She brushed her snout against my back, her teeth grazing my scruff, sending a tremor through me. "There are so many ways he could have killed you, yet he didn't. You helped him see freedom, helped him see the light. He isn't going to give you up."
I sighed, my gaze fixed on my claws, stained with dried blood. "I am a murderer, Indy. Because of me, Isabel died, and her family went up in ashes," I confessed, tears stinging my eyes. "I won't bring anything other than destruction to those who care for me."
Indy purred, her tail encircling me in a reassuring embrace. "That is not true, Ripper. You bring out the real dino in everyone, the true heart that has been caged for so long," she said, her words carrying the weight of wisdom and experience. She began to lick my wounds, her tongue closing them up with a gentle touch, her red eyes sparkling with an inner fire. "You will go on, and you will see the next generation rise, just like our ancestors before us. Make me proud, Ripper."
She ceased her ministrations and locked her gaze with mine. "Live your life, and live it wisely."
And then, as quickly as she had appeared, everything faded into darkness once more.
