"Ughhhhhh" I groaned, flopping down on the floor

Haruhi barely looked up at me from over the coffee table where we both had home work and worksheets spread out in front of us, a single eyebrow raised.

"Are you okay, Y/n?" She asked as she went back to the math work she had been completing "You're acting as dramatic as Tamaki, this isn't like you at all."

"I think you'll find it is," I complained "When the others aren't around at least. I mean come on, I've been at this school almost two and a half years and I still can't understand a damn thing."

"At least you've completed your homework, I still have half a page of maths problems to go."

Sighing I stood up to let Haruhi continue to work. I groaned as my knees cracked after having been sitting on the floor for so long and could hear Haruhi laugh under their breath at me. Smiling a little I made my way over to the kitchen to fix us some tea and a light snack as a reprieve from all our hard work. I couldn't even be bothered packing up all my papers and school supplies and instead left them on the coffee table. Instead I set up the kitchen island with our snacks and tea and by the time I was done Haruhi had finished all the math she had been working on and had come to join me.

"You know, a lot has happened in the host club while you've been working with Mrs Hitachiin," they simply stated as they slid into a bar stool beside me, taking a sip of the cup of tea I slid across to them "We have a manager now."

"Oh, gross," I said, wrinkling my nose "Is that what Tamaki has been complaining about in class? And besides, I, you, how did you know I was working with the twins mother?"

"It was simple really," she shrugged "I'm not blind. There's an incomplete dress in your spare room. Relax, I'm not going to tell anyone. Watching Kyoya chase his own tail has been amusing."

"It has, hasn't it," I laughed, rolling my eyes "I'm not even trying that hard anymore."

And with that we ate our snacks and drank our tea with small conversation. Out of all the other members of the host club, Haruhi had to be the one I preferred to spend my time with. They understood what it was like to feel as if you didn't belong in this school, as if one wrong move and you'd be thrown out. We were a novelty to these people, being the only two commoners here, and we had bonded rather quickly over that exact fact. The others in the club could be fun to hang around with, and at the very least I found their antics somewhat amusing, but Haruhi was like a breath of fresh air.

"You know," they hummed "The annual club sakura ball is coming up. Will you be attending as Y/n or f/n, because you can't feasibly be both and get away with it."

"You'd be surprised," I shrugged simply "I didn't plan on going, but at least one of me should go so as not to cause suspicion, I suppose. Did you need a costume made? Last I heard this years theme was masquerade."

"It's still too early to tell, I mean, we're barely out of fall," Haruhi sighed "And I wouldn't have the money to pay you, anyhow..."

"Nonsense!" I exclaimed

Standing up I rushed to my spare room and dig through several of the draws for my personal sketch book. I blushed slightly as I thought of what I was about to do but nevertheless I toted it back out to the living area, and as I sat back at the kitchen island I began flipping through it. Pages upon pages of designs were flipped past, until I finally found the page I had been looking for.

"This might seem odd, but you and the other club members have all fuelled me with enough inspiration to last a life time. I have a few here you might like, and I'll start making whichever you like in whatever colour is needed once that aspect of the ball is announced."

"Y/n..." Haruhi sighed as they flipped through several pages, their eyes growing wide before looking back at me "This is... this is too much, really. Besides, I'm sure the other club members already know what they want me to wear and... I couldn't ask you to make anything knowing I wouldn't be able to cover the costs."

I smiled softly at Haruhi and their consideration of my time and effort before shaking my head and gently patting their hand. This is why I liked them so much, they were more down to earth and grateful then any of the others.

"Don't worry about the cost. Between the profits I pull in from the other students, the club, and my partnership with Mrs Hitachiin, I am more then capable of making whatever you like," I explained softly with a smile "And if you don't like any of my current designs, we can even work together on creating a whole new one for you so it's exactly to your liking. I don't mind, honestly."

Haruhi nodded and with a slight blush of their own removed their hand from mine to continue flipping through the pages I had pointed out, until they found a design that made them gasp. It was one of my newer sketches, with slightly more slim fit slacks and a suit jacket that was nipped in at the waist. The fit was something between the feminine and masculine fit of most suits, and both the pants and jacket spotted pale pink cherry blossom embroidery. On the cuffs and around the pockets of the pants were climbing, winding dark branches with small pink flowers, and on the jacket the jacket the embroidery climbed up from the cuffs of the sleeves as well as a slight border of it around the collar.

"This is stunning..." Haruhi breathed, their fingers tracing the embroidery "I made you think of this?"

"Mhm," I hummed, nodding "The high waist of the pants and tucked waist of the jacket are more feminine, but the collar, sleeve fit, and inseam line of the pants are more in line with a more traditionally masculine fit. I thought if I ever made something for you, I wanted to blend the two into something that felt more... you... you know?"

Haruhi nodded and looked up to me with bright, shining eyes. It was clear no one had ever thought to do something quite like this for them, and their thankfulness and awe was written all over the face. It warmed my heart and brought a smile to my features, excited at the prospect that they liked something I had made.

"Why don't we go take your measurements so I can start on it nice and early, and if I have to change the colours then, well, I guess you'll be getting two brand new suits."

AN:
Yoooo I'm so sorry for pretty much abandoning this 😅
Depression has been kicking my ass and my new BPD medication minimises a lot of my creativity, plus I've been incredibly low on energy. This fic is kinda on the back burner so it's going to take quite a while to ever finish.

In other notes, I drew this suit to kind of show what I was talking about with the suit the reader drew for Haruhi.
