A.N. This chapter will not be super dialogue heavy. It will be full of Daryl's thoughts, his questions and concerns. Now, I am not a teenage boy, I am a woman who did complete school, therefore I do know more than a 15 year old. However, I still have questions about certain aspects of the show that hopefully will be answered in the spin offs. Daryl will also have these questions because I said so. If you know the answer to any of the many many questions included in this chapter, let me know! Please! Enjoy!
T.W. - Panic attack: I will include a warning before it starts and after it's done, so you can skip if you need to.
The group was once again following Doctor Jenner down a hallway. He was leading them back into the main circle room, and he didn't look too happy. However, Daryl could understand, the man couldn't even eat breakfast before Andrea and Dale jumped on his case for answers.
"Give me playback of TS-19." Jenner spoke, startling Daryl out of his thoughts. Oliver tugged Daryl's sleeve and led him to the other side of Mrs. Carol and Sophia.
The two teenagers watched in awe as V.I. responded while data was pulled on the screen. It reminded Daryl of something he would read in a comic, or maybe one of those cool movies Merle used to watch.
"Few people ever got a chance to see this. Very few." Jenner explained, as everyone shuffled onto the platform and chose a spot to stand.
They watched as a few pictures of brain activity loaded in. The bright blue against the black screen had Daryl thinking back to the blinking neon sign to his dad's favorite liquor store. There were a lot of words under the pictures that Daryl didn't understand, but he could recognize a few from his science class.
"Is that a brain?" Carl asked, looking up at the doctor in amazement. Rick was behind him, his eyes flickering between Jenner and the screen.
"A very extraordinary one." Jenner answers, bending at the knee to bring him closer to Carl's height. Carl gave him a small smile before looking back up at the brain. "Not that it matters in the end." He trailed off, avoiding eye contact with the group. "Take us in for E.I.V.."
The robot lady responded, and the screen started moving, giving a closer view to the bright lights. The group watched the screen zoom in, until they were pretty much inside of the brain. It showed a bunch of wire looking things that reminded Daryl of the inside of that radio he took apart when he was ten.
"What are those lights?" Shane asked, sitting in one of the desk chairs. Daryl looked over at Jenner for a moment and then got distracted again by the pulsing wires.
"It's a person's life- experiences, memories. It's everything. Somewhere in all that organic wiring, all those ripples of light, is you- the thing that makes you unique. And human." The doctor explained, looking over each individual standing in front of him.
"You don't make sense ever?" Daryl asked, wishing Mr. Clarke was here to better explain what the man was teaching. Mr. Clarke was who helped Daryl pass 9th grade, and damn if he didn't miss that man right about now.
It's not that Daryl was dumb, he just wished people wouldn't use such big words to explain such small things. Instead of saying mathematician, say math genius and everyone will know what you mean, it's not that hard. Instead of using riddles, just give a straight to the point answer.
"Those are synapses, electric impulses in the brain that carry all the messages. They determine everything a person says, does, or thinks from the moment of birth... to the moment of death." Doctor Jenner describes, using a tone of voice Daryl doesn't like. He sounds way too much like an evil scientist.
