04 | THE PAST

renjun was right. naeun called jeno as soon as she woke up, knowing that her parents were in the same bed and also held hands the moment she woke up. renjun just listened to what Naeun said while facetiming jeno, at the same time toasting some pieces of bread for breakfast.

"you are not going to believe it! aunt seulbyul was holding dad's hand when i woke up. they're sleeping while holding hands!" naeun said, and renjun sighed with a smile creeping on his lips. he noticed that too, since he was awake earlier than her. he noticed that she placed her hand on top of his, and squeezed it a little. to know that he was there.

"that's insane! the one year wait was so worth it! you should take a pic next time, naeun" jeno yelled from the line, and renjun rolled his eyes.

"naeun, come and eat your breakfast. put your iPad away, or your aunt seulbyul is going to nag again when she sees you like this"

naeun pouted, giving her goodbyes to jeno and then ate. seulbyul walked in 10 minutes later, freshly showered. she smiled as she sat next to naeun, and renjun served her breakfast.

"what are the plans for today?"

"more swimming, if you want to. we can go collect some seashells, and play some beach games" renjun answered naeun's question while taking a bite of his bread. the kid cheered, quickly finishing her food to change into her swimsuit.

and when renjun made an eye contact with seulbyul, both of them smiled a little.

this what happened when you're in love.

that evening, renjun, seulbyul and naeun walked along the beach searching for seashells. not going to lie, seulbyul was an expert in this. naeun took some breaks by playing with the water, and then continued helping her aunt searching for more seashells.

"that's so pretty!"

naeun gasped in awe when seulbyul showed her a big and shiny seashell she found. the woman chuckled, giving it to naeun so she'd place them in a seashell bucket. renjun told her that he has an empty aquarium at home, and if she behaved well he'd buy some pretty fish and use those seashells to decorate the aquarium!

seulbyul sat down near the waves with naeun, checking all of the seashells they have found. naeun counted 74 seashells, and she said that she wanted to search for more. on the other hand, renjun was totally struggling with it. he couldn't find any, but he did find some baby crabs.

"this is so hard..." the guy pouted, and seulbyul chuckled.

"maybe its hard because all of the pretty seashells were found by us" naeun said, and renjun ruffled her hair.

"we've been searching for two hours, the sun is starting to go down and it makes me hungry"

"you just had your meal, renjun" seulbyul said, causing the guy to pout more. "I'll bring you guys some puddings"

"yes, please!"

seulbyul laughed when renjun walked away to the villa for some puddings. this guy did have thin patience, she used to dislike that behaviour of him so much, but now, she did find it cute.

she was about to search for more when a voice stopped her from doing so.

"seulbyul..."

naeun looked at the unfamiliar guy, standing behind her aunt. seulbyul, on the other hand started to curse inside for letting renjun go. this was the perfect time she needed him, like literally.

"shouldn't you leave the villa like... 7 hours ago?" she asked, and the guy let out a breathy chuckle.

"I don't think i can leave this place without you. I don't know, i think im going insane. but knowing the fact that you're married makes me feel... lonely. it's been more than a year since you opened the cafe..."
