Third Person POV:
The police arrested Ted Wheeler soon after, charging him with abuse, neglect, among others. Mike was taken to the hospital with Will accompanying him.
"You said you've been punched in the face?" A doctor questions Mike, shining a bright light in his eye. Mike nods slightly. "Are you feeling dizzy, confused, or shaky in any way?" Mike gives a small shrug.
"A little, I think," He says, and the doctor moves the bright light to his other eye.
"Your stitches will need to be redone," The doctor says. "You might have a concussion, so I would suggest staying the night."
Mike nods. The doctor puts away the light and gives Mike a smile.
"Would you like something to eat or drink?" The doctor questions. Mike glances at Will, who was sitting in a chair next to him, and nods. It was late at night, after all. "Alright, we can get you some food. Do you have any allergies?" Mike shakes his head. "Okay."
The doctor leaves the room, letting Mike and Will have some alone time.
"I'm sorry for not telling you," Mike whispers after a moment.
Will turns to look at him. "What? You don't have to be sorry," He says. "He probably would've gotten mad at you if he found out you told me, and I don't want you to be hurt more than you are."
Mike frowns at the grounds, negative thoughts circulating through his brain.
It is my fault, though. Mike thinks, glancing away from his(cough, cough) friend. I knew I shouldn't have picked up the call, now he knows, and now they'll all know.
"Can you.." Mike starts. "Can you not tell the rest of the party?"
"What?" Will questions, confused. "Why not? We can all help you." He gently places his hand on top of Mike's, which was shaking. "I can help you."
Mike bites his lip in thought. "You can help me, I just don't want all of them treating me like a baby," He says.
Will stares at Mike's side profile, worry etched across his face. "Okay, I won't." He says.
"Thanks," Mike says, and soon the doctor came back with another nurse, who was carrying a tray of food. She handed it to Mike and he began eating, bit by bit. He looks at Will again. "Do you really promise?"
Will smiles. "Yup, promise," He says sincerely.
Mike subconsciously let out a yawn, and the nurse took the tray of food away from him as his grip loosened from sleepiness.
"Do you want some sleep?" Will asks softly. "You just had a really big day."
The ravenette frowned, but let the doctor lead him over to a bed. Will sat down in a chair next to it as Mike faced him, squinting his eyes with half his face against the pillows.
"Thanks for being with me," Mike mumbles. "You're really amazing.."
Will's face brightened. He gave Mike another soft, warm smile that made Mike want to crawl out of bed and cuddle him. Ew, shut up brain. Mike thought. He's a boy. "So are you," Will replies. "I'll see you tomorrow, yeah?"
Mike mumbles something that might've been a yeah or just incoherent words, it was hard to tell.
Then Mike's eyes fully close and he lets out a soft sigh, falling asleep.
...
He stayed in the hospital for half the next day, just so the doctors could make sure he wasn't hurt in any other way.
Will had to leave in the morning and go to school, but he promised to meet up with him after.
Ted was put in jail, to await his trial. Karen was still at home, as was Holly and Nancy. The party had no idea what was going on, all they knew was that Mike was absent today. Will really wanted to tell them, but he didn't break his promise with Mike.
"You're home already?" Will asks, plopping down on his bed as he pops a chip in his mouth.
"Uh huh," Mike says. "The doctors said my concussion's fine, I'll just be kinda dizzy for a few days." He glances out his bedroom door. "My mom's been avoiding me, I think she thinks I'll call the police on her," He adds with a chuckle.
Will hums. "Well, she better watch out," He says. "If she does any in the slightest-!"
"I know, you'll hang her by her foot and dump cold water all over her," Mike says, giggling. Will explained his whole plan just minutes before."
Will pops another chip in his mouth. "You know, the party was asking about you,"
"Yeah?" Mike responds, moving over to his desk to start a writing project. "I'll talk to them when I get back to school. Which I think is tomorrow, if I can convince Nancy."
"You sure you want to come back to school so quickly?" Will asks, still worried.
Mike hums a yes. "I don't want to miss too much school," He says, sharpening his pencil. "I'm already falling behind."
"Yeah but you have a concussion and your dad just got arrested," Will says.
"I'll be fine, Will," Mike says, brushing off the brunette's concern. He sighs, dropping the pencil. "I have to go now, but I'll hopefully see you tomorrow, okay?"
Will nods, but then speaks since he remembered Mike can't see. "Yeah, okay," He whispers.
Mike hangs up, and sets his phone down before leaving his room, going down the stairs and into the kitchen. He feels unnecessary shivers down his back, just because almost every time he enters this room he gets hurt.
But he was going now, Mike thought, and he's not coming back.
Karen was in the kitchen, and she tensed up slightly when Mike entered, before giving him a strained smile. "Oh, hello honey," She says, turning to him. "Do you want any food or something?"
He could already see the beads of sweat drip down her forehead. Mike shakes his head.
"Ah, well," Karen says. "I need to go on a business trip tomorrow," She says. "You're welcome to come, it's in California."
Mike frowns. "No thanks," He says. "Maybe some other time."
He leaves the room, and Karen lets out a sigh of relief. Mike bites back a smirk. That was almost hilarious, how his mother, who before had been so incredibly horrible to him, was wobbling in his very presence. He almost laughed.
He's gone now, Mike thought again, and he's not coming back.
