THIRD PERSON POV:
Apparently, news travels very fast in High School hallways.
Mike thought that the news of Jane and his break up would be somewhat subdued to the students. Like, 'Oh, did you hear that couple broke up?' would be said once, and then everyone would forget it.
That was not at all how it went. Not in the slightest.
"Hey, Mike," A senior boy says, leaning against the wall next to him. "I heard you don't have that brat hanging off your arm anymore. Would you be interested in getting a coffee then?"
"I heard you need help with your grades," A girl from his grade says, batting her eyelashes. "I'd gladly be your tutor."
"My friends and I were wondering if you wanted to sit at our table today," Another senior girl says, twirling her hair. "Y'know, make some new besties."
Evidently, Mike Wheeler was popular and handsome. It seemed everyone wanted to date him now, since he was now s-i-n-g-l-e. Of course, he always turned them down, a shy smile and an awkward wave. And of course, Jane was not having it.
He kept seeing her glare at a person who just tried to ask him out, and he scoffed at her behavior. She was acting like a spoiled brat.
And Will was practically doing the same thing. But Will was different. He's just protective.
"Ay, Wheeler," Another boy from their grade calls to him, sauntering up to Mike. The ravenette pauses his talking with Lucas and glances at the new boy. "How about you dump your loser friends and come with me for a little one-on-one time, hey?"
Which was possibly the worst thing to say to try and get Mike on a date with anyone. Instantly, the boy was met with a death glare.
Lucas smiled at the boy, the smile everyone knew no one wanted. "Piss off," He says politely.
The boy sweat drops. "Wait, that was a joke, man," He tried to salvage the conversation, but he had already jumped off the deep end. "I only meant-"
Mike steps forward, poking the boy in the chest with a frown. The two were the same height. "My 'loser friend' just said to fuck off, man," He says slowly, his eyes narrowing. "So that means fuck off."
And that's how one boy became completely friendless. No one disrespected Mike Wheeler and lived to tell the tale.
Their friend group wasn't part of those kids, that was the group Jane had recently gotten into. Sure, everyone was popular in their own right, but they weren't snappy and rude. Let's see here:
Lucas Sinclair, sixteen and has already been on the national news two times for his basketball game achievements and such. He usually has a range of all A's, B's, and just a few C's, but that's to be expected. Has been dubbed the 'sweetheart' in all yearbooks since age ten.
Dustin Henderson, the famed 'popular nerd', which many people would say is an oxymoron. Either way, he's led his teams(of science and math) to championship competitions without so much as breaking a sweat. Obviously, all A's. He runs the yearbook.
Max Mayfield, the girlfriend. She's won plenty of skateboard championship games, a wide range of gold metals. Her skateboarding and Lucas's basketball makes them the perfect couple in Hawkins High. They were actually voted 'most healthy relationship' in the past three yearbooks.
William Byers, seventeen and already has a practically full on job as an artist. Not only does he have Instagram, Tumblr, Tiktok, and YouTube accounts with well over a hundred thousand followers, but he has won plenty of art competitions throughout his entire life. All A's. The lowest grade he's ever gotten is a A-.
