After the old sages were thrown out of power, your work doubled immensely. Hobbies you should've been able to do were left untouched. Plans you worked on with your friends got canceled. And lastly, the time you should've spent with Al-Haitham was used up for other things. You had no choice but to focus on the piles of paperwork you had to do for the betterment of the Akademiya and Sumeru.

The moon shone bright, giving a soft glow to the hallway as it reflected off the marble floor. You can't wait to get out of here for tonight, get into that soft bed, and be rid of all this stress. You can't wait for Kaveh to scold you both again for overworking yourselves.

You watch as the professors leave for the night one by one. A few poor students remain just to finish their research. Finally, you arrive at the front of Al-Haitham's office. Scribe or acting grand sage, he's always either reading or writing pages upon pages of notes.

"Excuse me, you should learn how to knock," Al-Haitham says without looking up from his desk. You roll your eyes and clear your throat. He shuts his book and locks eyes with you, "oh, it's you."

"Jeez, so cold, mister; I'll learn to knock next time if you promise not to be so grouchy," you chuckle, taking a seat in the chair across from him.

Al-Haitham leans back and sighs loudly before turning around, "sorry. Just got too caught up in my work. How are things going?"

"Good, good," you smile widely. "But as for the students, since the overthrowing and lesser lord Kusanali's return, we've been working our butts off to help them adjust to the new system. Not only do we have to oversee them, but they seem to think that we're here to help them solve every problem, which gets tiring after a while. How about you?"

"Same thing," he replies. "I'm barely getting any sleep."

"That's why everyone is telling us to take some time off and relax," you reply. You lean forward, elbows resting on your knees.

"You aren't talking to many people, have you? The last time someone said that to us was last night, by a certain architect. The same one who said that the other night, then the night before that."

You laugh out loud, "Oh come on, you know Kaveh means well; maybe he doesn't want us to be as sleep-deprived as he is."

"Well, it's too late for someone the likes of him to be giving advice."

"Hey, don't be too mean!" You laugh while slamming on the table hard. "Say, what time are you leaving? I can wait for a few more hours, maybe even help you with your work." Al-Haitham gives a stern look. It's a familiar sight, a common response whenever you make an offer like this, but he doesn't respond. "Or I could sit here and keep you company."

"There's no need. You should head back home," Al-Haitham insists, returning to his desk. "It's already late."

"Well, I'm not leaving you because I know you're never going to take a rest until you pass out or die," you huff, crossing your arms. Al-Haitham playfully rolls his eyes before tossing you a bunch of folders.
