First year | 1972-1973

Alexandra Potter was to observant for her own good. She was to clever and knew to much about to many things. Her parents had warned her of the things she was capable of. Warned her to not let a soul know. James Potter knew. He was the only one who knew about Alexandras gift.

Alex knew who James would become friends with. She knew that one held a horrible disease that made him feel weak and lonely. She knew that one was not like his family and she knew one was a coward.

Alex was not allowed to say any of this to anyone. But Alex couldn't help but be close to these three boys that her brother befriended.

In her first month of Hogwarts Alex went up to Remus Lupin, who was sitting in a dark corner of the library on a chilly Wednesday afternoon, four days after a full moon, she came out and said it. "I know." Alex said when she took a seat right next to the boy. Remus' face contorted into confusion and then it hit the poor boy right in the face. "I don't care Remus, really." Alexandra had said quickly before Remus could even utter a word. Alex took out a book about Animagus. "Anyway, I hate the fact that you're out at the horrid shack all alone and I've been doing some extensive research about Aminagus and they cannot actually turn into werewolves if scratched when they are in their animal form." Alex said passing the book over to the worried and quite impressed Remus. "I've already started the planning on becoming one because I will not be letting you stay there without someone watching you." Alexandra said folding her arms over her chest. Remus had just stared at the girl before he basically fell out of his chair and hugged Alex so tight she could barely breathe. Alex then proceeded to hold a mandrake leaf under her tongue for a whole month — James had been asking and asking why she hadn't uttered a single word which Alex had just glared at him and slid him a piece of parchment that had said 'taking a vow of silence until your head is out of your arse'. James was not impressed by that note and burnt it to a crisp before he kissed his sister on the head and then pushed her off the sofa that sat infront of the fire in the Gryffindor common room.

Luckily Alexandra had her fathers gift of potion making and her mother's gift of transfiguration so after a month, Alex put her saliva-filled leaf inside a small crystal phial that had received the pure rays of the moon and added her own hair and added a silver teaspoon of dew from a place that sunlight nor human feet have touched and then added the chrysalis of a Death's-head Hawk Moth to the crystal phial. She then put the mixture in a quiet, dark place and muttered to herself, with her wand tip over her heart at every sunrise and sunset 'Amato Animo Animato Animagus'. And a few weeks after that she could feel a second heartbeat. Luckily for her a huge lightening storm had swept quickly through Scotland. She went to where she had hidden her crystal phial and made her way to the Highly Discouraged Forest and placed her wand tip against her heart said the incantation 'Amato Animo Animato Animagus' and drank her blood-red potion and she soon had seen the creature she'd be in her mind and she had felt no fear.

She had read countless books about the transformation and how it could be uncomfortable and frightening, yes it felt extremely uncomfortable, almost like hearing nails go down on a chalkboard , but she had felt no fear because she was doing this to help her friend.

Alex had left her wand in a small bag with extra clothes. Making sure every single piece of jewellery she wore was in the bag and slowly made her way near a small lake that was near her and looked into the beautiful dark waters and saw what she transformed into. A light coloured cat stared back at Alex. Alex cannot help the meow that escapes her mouth. Shes excited and happy and she's absolutely over the moon.

When the next full moon came Alex had made a few wolves-bane potions. Remus was nearly sobbing when Alex and him make their way down to the shrieking shack. Alex had brushed him off and told him that her father has so many of them that are lying around his potions room that he wouldn't even know he missed them. Remus had then asked how on merlins earth she got them and she just shrugged and said she owled her house-elf and Minky gladly sent her some of the potions.

Alex then transformed into her form and Remus laughed and Alex proceeded to hiss at him which made him laugh more.

Alex could not help by flinch at the sounds Remus made when he transforms. Shes not terrified of him, she's terrified of how Remus Lupin had gone on for years without anyone helping him and Alex is just glad Remus is no longer alone.

When Remus was fully transformed, the werewolf was not at all scary. Hes rather quite pretty. Alex then went up to the wolf and nudged her head on the wolfs leg and they both ran out the shrieking shack and into the Highly Discouraged Forest.

That night Remus Lupin and Moony — who Alex named him after that night — had the best night of their lives. Alex helped Remus to the medical wing and Madam Pomfrey was wide eyed and Remus just smiled. A smile that Madam Pomfrey had never seen before and when Alex was dismissed she squeezed Remus' hand and made her way to her dorm where she gets just enough sleep to last her through her lessons for the day.

Remus Lupin swore after that day to protect Alexandra Potter.
