WITH THE BREEZE: NAMOR
Mawu's bright eyes twinkled in the darkness as she breathed the thick fog of the midnight air. She watched three vehicles that belonged to her uncle's men pass on the road adjacent to the river. Namor kept Mawu close as he was the one to hear the cars from the distance. He wrapped his arm around her midsection, pulling her into the darkness so that lights wouldn't reveal their location.
Moments before, the pair walked alongside the road, not speaking but only glancing at each other, just as they had done earlier in the day. When Namor noticed the sounds of the machines, he quickly pulled Mawu into the treeline, covering her shouts of confusion with his hand. When she noted why he had done what he had, she tore his hand away from her face and pressed her back against his chest. Hoping squeezing together would hide their mass.
They wait. Even after the vehicles vanished, their breathing and the sound of wildlife were the only things that could be heard.
"They are gone," Namor whispered, removing his arm around her. "Are you ok?"
The pair had stumbled back into a tree, causing Namor to slam against it. Mawu landed on him, and they had stayed in that position.
Mawu lifts her back away from his torso, looking back at him. She could only see his outline but could see his eyes glisten. He was skilled in hiding. His dark features and intelligence gave him that. All the while, Mawu's white hair gave her away quite easily.
"I'm fine," Mawu spoke, ignoring the small cuts on her legs and feet. She'll heal them eventually.
Namor stood as she did, turning to where the sound of water could be heard.
"I told you we shouldn't be walking on the roads."
"We can't see!" Mawu whispered loudly.
"I can see!" Namor argued.
"That's not the point! I refuse to walk in the trees because I can't see spiders at night," Mawu tells Namor, looking around as if a spider might crawl out of nowhere and jump onto her face. Namor looked at the woman as if her comment was childish. She could control (almost) any element and held a great spiritual connection with the earth and creatures upon it; Her statement couldn't have been serious.
With a scoff, Namor starts for the river instead of the road. And with a soft, defeated whimper, Mawu follows.
Holding his hand ever so often, Namor helps Mawu in the thick woods. Until they reached the river's shores, they continued up the path through the darkness in silence yet again.
Namor allowed Mawu to hold his forearm as he led her upstream, hearing the voices calling out for Namor to come closer.
It wasn't until Namor paused that Mawu let go of his limb.
"Here," Namor pointed.
Activating her Iron Arm, knowing now Shetani's men wouldn't be able to see any lights from this point, she shines a light at the very spot where Namor points. She could see that the water wasn't flowing but had been blocked by an invisible wall. Fish swam around this wall with eagerness, pleased to see the man they had been speaking to had finally arrived.
"What is it?" Mawu whispered, taking a few steps in front of Namor. The wall had stopped any water, drying up the area. She couldn't understand this and how Shetani could do such a thing. The woman moved the light until she saw something between rocks and grass. With raised brows, Mawu approached and knelt, touching the object with her bare hand. An electric shock connected with her fingers, and Mawu snapped her hand away, hissing at the momentary pain. "It electrocuted me."
