You make me sad,
but not in the way you think.
It's who you are
that makes my armor chink.
It's your smile and kindness,
the way you reach out.
It's such a stark contrast
to when you would shout.

I am sad because I wish
you'd never been that way.
That my heart you had carried;
that I'd never been brought to sway.
I wish you'd been gentle,
soft and kind;
that you'd not been so angry,
delving deep in your mind.

I am sad because you are good,
you are honest and mild.
You deserve joy and love,
but you gave into the wild.
You can still have those things,
but never with me.
You put me in danger,
so I needed to flee.

I am sad because I care,
and I always will.
No matter the future,
that will remain still.
You did what you did,
we can't change the past.
Make a better future;
and make the change last.
