Hope

Do not tell me there is no hope,
no reason to smile.
When I have lived that life;
walked an endless mile.
Each day began
with the slowest pace.
I would see a mirror
and not recognize my face.

My footsteps would fall
in what seemed darkest night.
I lived a whole day
without seeing the light.
What use was life
with no reason to live?
An empty shell of a woman;
no hope to give.

Lost and gone,
that was me.
Making choices they said
would set me free.
But what is freedom
when there's no gain?
The cost of "living" is
a life of pain.

To move on is to face
everything in a past.
The bad and the worst;
what they said wouldn't last.
But there's One Who forgives,
my debt He has paid.
My only job is to ask,
then the payment is laid.

Who says miracles
are not real?
One day I woke up,
and I began to heal.
Days once dark,
now sprinkled with light.
Because a war was waged;
for my future a fight.

Life is for more
than earthly pleasure.
Don't believe the promise;
protect your treasure.
The gift of life,
not meant to endure.
It's full of hope and promise,
that He does ensure.
