James Potter cared about his friends more than anything. He would support them no matter what. Sirius murdered someone? No problem he'll help him cover it and escape the country. Peter got caught cheating in a test? Nothing to worry about, he'll take the blame.
So when he found himself yelling at Remus, he felt extremely guilty. He yelled at his Moony, how could he? He was supposed to support and love each one of them unconditionally. And to think that it was Remus who he was arguing with out of everyone, the best one of them all...
But he couldn't help himself when it was about this girl. He followed every single thing she did. He observed her every move carefully and took notes of every way she was effected by everything going on for her lately.
He hated being one of the reasons she was suffering this much. He planned his every single step to minimize his negative impact on her. He wanted everything to work out the best for her.
When the boys went outside to play snowball, none of them expected it to escalate so quickly. Peter's words were what triggered all of the events in the beginning "Which one of you is dating her now?". The boy meant no harm and all of them knew it. But Remus couldn't help his urge to ask further.
"What do you mean which one of us?" he questioned. Sensing he said something wrong, peter quickly shut his mouth. "No, wormtail. What you mean which one?" Remus asked once again.
"Maybe you should just not talk to her at all. You did more harm than good for her." James spitted out mindlessly. "Prongs, you're going too far." Sirius warned the boy.
"What's that supposed to mean?" Remus asked very confused as to why his friend was suddenly acting like he was his enemy. "You were the one who encouraged me to get closer to her. You don't get to say I upset her now since you were the mastermind behind it all." he raised an eyebrow.
"And I regret it okay? Yes I messed up too. I have upset her. But did you have to go and fancy her? I was walking on eggshells to not get her in any more trouble than she had on her own! But you had to ruin it! How come you get to act the way you want while knowing her for so short while i knew her for all i knew myself and had to keep everything locked up for her sake!?" James shouted at his friend. No one was expecting the sudden burst out from their usually very lighthearted friend.
He went inside and ran to his room to cool his temper. What has gotten into him? He knew it wasn't any of Remus' fault, but he couldn't keep quiet and blamed things he had done on his friend.
It wasn't Remus' fault he cared so much about her but was too scared to show her because of the possibility of losing her. "He doesn't blame you, he just cares about her so much but is too stubborn to even admit to himself." Sirius told his friend before they entered the house after James.
"Would you mind company?" the girl asked as she peeked her head from the door. "Not if it's you." James sighed in defeat. He wanted all of this to be over. He hoped everything was a dream and he would wake up in Hogwarts on September 1st before this year ever started.
"This is your party you know, you should go have fun with everyone else." she said as she sat on the edge of his bed. "What is having me there good for if all i do is make a fuss." he shook his head as he told the girl.
"You're not making any fuss, you're only trying to protect your friends. That's very noble." Cally genuinely smiled at the boy. James returned the smile unintentionally.
"I don't wanna start the new year before making up with you." Cally wrapped her hands around his, looking him in the eyes. "I don't want that either of course. I've been wanting to make up with you ever since we first had the fight." James told her as he took her hands in his.
Both the teenagers kept quiet for a second before Cally wrapped her arms around the boy's shoulders, embracing him. James was quick to react and hug the girl back as if he was waiting for this moment— he was.
"Everyone's dancing downstairs." Cally smiled at the boy, inviting him to dance in a not very subtle way. "Well then, let us dance here." James grinned before leaning to his record player and setting it up.
(Start listening and i love her by the beatles for a better experience)
He got up and fixed his clothes that were wrinkled from sitting on his bed before offering his hand to the smiling girl. Oh how pretty she was, staring in his eyes. She took his hand in the air, standing up too.
The music started to play. The beautiful melody filled the room as James wrapped his arms around the girl's waist as she raised hers to connect behind his neck, standing very close.
'I give her all my love,'
"You look very pretty."
'That's all i do,'
"Thank you. You look very handsome yourself."
'And if you saw my love, you'd love her too.'
"I finally understand it. I care about you so much that I couldn't even admit to myself. Stupidly enough, I tried to ignore it by accidentally ignoring you."
'I love her'
"So you were actually ignoring me?" the girl questioned, looking in his eyes.
"I absolutely regret it. I'm sorry." he avoided her gaze, feeling shameful.
"You're forgiven" she mumbled before putting her head on his chest, closing the small gap between them completely.
'She gives me everything,'
"I care about you more than I'd like to admit too."
'And tenderly'
"We won't ever let anyone or anything effect our-" he couldn't find the correct word. Friendship? Relationship? No. Bond?
'The kiss my lover brings,'
Before he was able to continue his sentence, he noticed some mistletoes growing over their heads. "Did you just grow these?" he asked.
Cally raised her head to understand what the boy was talking about. When she saw the red berries right in front of her nose, her cheeks burned with embarrassment.
"I didn't mean to." she grimaced. James softly smiled at the girl's panicked voice.
'She brings to me'
He leaned in and placed a kiss between the girl's mouth and cheek. She opened her eyes in shock, then the corner of her mouth from where he kissed turned up.
'And i love her'
'And i love her.' thought James.
"Merry Christmas James." she smiled and gently kissed his cheek, standing on her tiptoes.
"Merry Christmas Annie."
