Umber stretched his wings, after travelling for another day. He was completely wiped out, his muscles screaming for rest and his head dizzier than a piglet in a winding maze. Sora looked even more affected, with bags under her eyes and a hollow look beneath her cheeks. "Can you make it to the orphanage? Or at least under that willow tree; it looks nice and muddy!" Umber tried in vain to perk Sora up, and ended up having to basically carry her, with Sora leaning completely on Umber's shoulder. He put her under the willow tree and began to dig. He needed a dip in the ground for him and Sora to rest in, but unfortunately, he could barely keep his eyes from closing.
Just as he was about to give up, a dragonet with pale yellow wings and red freckles, a strikingly dark red back trotted up to him. Perched on her snout was a pair of shining gold glasses, and she had a scroll slung over her back. "You look exhausted." She said, a slight hint of disgust in her beautiful yellow eyes. Umber realised he had forgotten to wash in the river, so you couldn't even tell what shade of brown Umber's scales were. He felt like a dirty Marabou stork next to this beautiful MudWing. He dusted off some on the dirt and grinned. "No biggy, just been flying almost for five days straight. Not tiring at all!" he smiled, a little spark of hope igniting the wet pile of exhaustion inside him. "I am Umber, and this is Sora. And you?" Umber bowed a little. "Your majesty." He smiled cheekily. The pretty dragonet sighed. "If only. I'm Burgundy." She added. Umber nodded. "Do you want some help digging that...Hole?" Burgundy asked, glancing behind Umber. "Oh. Yes please." Umber replied awkwardly. Burgundy crouched down beside Umber and began digging.
They dug until the hole was about a fox-length (meter-ish) deep. "Good job." Burgundy panted, her normally dainty posture, despite being a MudWing, was uncontrolled and stumbling. "I should be saying good job to you." Umber replied, his limbs just as disoriented as hers. Behind Umber, Sora cleared her throat. She's okay! Umber thought happily, though his joy faded when he saw the scornful look on Sora's face as she looked Burgundy up and down. Why is she being so rude? Sora's normally so introverted... I wonder why she's being so unreserved all of a sudden. Sora stood up; Her face was completely changed to perfect innocently worried expression she normally wore. "Sorry if I interrupted anything," Sora stared at Umber coldly. "But I believe it is time we got some rest." Sora sniffed, uncharacteristically resentful.
"What's gotten into you, Sora?" Umber whispered as Burgundy left. "Nothing! Just you, bailing on me for your pretty little friend over there." Sora snapped, flicking her wing at Burgundy, who was walking away to collect Reeds to line their dip with. "Well, I'm sorry!" Umber growled back, and then looked away. "Sorry." He added, sounding a little more apologetic.
