Burgundy nipped off another Reed stem. "That should be enough!" she said aloud, satisfied with the bundle of rushes she had collected for Umber and Sora's dip. She pricked her ears to hear what Umber and Sora were saying, and she clenched her bundle as she heard what they were arguing about. "-You bailing me for your pretty little friend over there!" "Well, I'M sorry!." "Oops!" Burgundy called loudly, pretending to drop her bundle. "I dropped my bundle! I'll just pick them all up! You keep on talking." She shouted over her shoulder.

Burgundy slowly picked up her Reeds, purposely slipping up on the muddy banks a few times. She pricked her ears again, catching their words. "Look at you. You're a mess, Umber. Shouldn't you be washing?" Burgundy could hear the contempt in Sora's tone. "You can go down to the bank and wash next to your  charming friend." Sora's voice was mocking, and Burgundy heard the shocked, hurt gasp from Umber. "Well, maybe I will!" Umber snapped back, stomping down the bank. Burgundy hurriedly relaxed her head, turning back to the Reeds. Umber shot her a nervous glance. "You- you didn't hear any of that, did you?" Umber asked, pausing from rinsing his talons in the river. "Hear what?" Burgundy lied. Umber relaxed, and turned back to his talons, scraping dried mud between his claws off. "Nothing. Nothing at all."

Burgundy sat down, feeling her worries disappear with every stroke of the brush against the white canvas. It was a day since Umber and Sora had arrived, and as much as she wanted to see Umber, she really wanted to avoid Sora. Who knew such a nervous looking dragon could be so rude? She thought unhappily. "Burgundy!" Mudslide called. "Your mother and I have to go to work, so she wants you to go with her so she can keep an eye on you."

"But I don't need Mum to watch me."

"She doesn't see it that way."

"Well, I do!"

"Burgundy, come on!" Mudslide shouted, with his 'just do as I say right now or there will be consequences' voice. "Coming..." Burgundy sighed.

Lahar hummed gently as she set up for the day. Burgundy copied her tune and began lighting up the fires so she could heat up the water and warm up the stoves. "Good girl." Lahar praised her daughter, twining her tail with Burgundy's. "Thanks, Mum." Burgundy grinned. Lahar smiled, but she suddenly frowned. "...Mum?" Burgundy asked, confusion glimmering in her yellow eyes. "Oh, Mudpie, it's nothing." Lahar smiled again at her daughter and turned around. Burgundy said nothing, just narrowed her eyes and began putting some camel shish kebabs on the stove.
