They say first and last borns are a good match. The idea of opposites attracting definitely rings true in this situation.
The first born (You) like to care for others, be in control and are organized. The last born (Rin) are used to being dependent, are less organized and want someone to look after them...
Rindou always thought this was just a bunch of shit. Nonsense... He was older than you, spoiled you despite your objection to it. He prided himself on taking care of you, his way of saying he loves you since he couldn't bring himself to scream it to the heavens like you deserved.
(He would do it in a heartbeat now...)
But the longer the days went on without you? The more he realized it was you taking care of him all along. Not only him but even Ran. Who's random moodiness had returned, along with his habit of sleeping all day. (No one was there to force Ran to take his much needed vitamins.)
The meals they ate usually just appeared. And he's never tasted anything better. He even found himself itching like a drug addict when the cookies that you usually filled a cow shaped jar with were no longer available.
His laundry basket never filled, clothes always folded and put away neatly. Their apartment was always clean and felt lived in at the same time.
And now it was a mess... His life was slowly becoming a mess.
But the part he missed the most was when you were able to spend the night with him. He acted like he hated it but he missed the way you ran your fingers through his hair to help him sleep. (He didn't want to seem like a child but he enjoyed it so much.)
The way your pretty fingers would work out the knots that formed on his neck and back from being annoyed by Ran all damn day.
The way you hummed some child's lullaby to him while he held you and buried his face into your hair or chest. You just made him feel at home, your heartbeat brought him peace...
Now his bed just felt cold, empty..
--------
The door slowly opened after he stood there for a few minutes.. Heartbeat flooding his ear.
Sceptical eyes trailed down his face to the flowers he clutched in his hands. He could feel the cold coming from her, even if she wore a soft face... Just like yours.
Your mother.
He's only met her a total of 4 times during the year and a few months he's been in love with you. They only talked for a few seconds before she raced off somewhere. She was a busy woman, so seeing her home was something unusual?
"Rindou. What are you doing here?"
He was surprised she actually remembered his name. Let alone what he looked like.
It was like he swallowed a ball of ice, attached to that ice was small razor blades that clung to the inside of his throat. He gulped the nonexistent torture. He was nervous. Why was he nervous?!
He managed to ask if you were home. Embarrassed at the small shake you could hear as he spoke..
Your mother's eyebrows raised. "She didn't tell you?" (She knew you didn't, but she was angry at the younger Haitani at the moment.)
Rindou was at a loss for words?
Your mother continued. "She's no longer here in Tokyo. She left to further her education."
Rindou could feel his heart breaking. He'd rather you be hiding behind the door. Telling your mother to lie to him just to make him leave. But when tears welded up in your mother's eyes. He knew it was all too real..
