Illy woke up to the faint smell of waffles floating through the air and intense purring on her chest.

She stretched her arms lazily, pointing her toes as she arched up to release the tension in her back and Charli stretched along with her, yawning too, before he hopped off the bed and padded from the room, tail high in the air.

Illy couldn't remember the last time she'd slept through the night and woke up feeling this well-rested and she found that it was thanks to the warm body next to her.

Dominik was still in her bed, one arm slung over her waist, thick brows furrowed in his sleep and inky black hair splayed out across the silk pillowcase.

She loved the way his long lashes fanned his cheeks and the soft blush of his lips.

Dominik was so perfect.

How?

He'd never once gotten upset with her or showed her a disagreeable face. He was kind, he was considerate, he was intelligent.

Who is he, really?

Illy couldn't shake the feeling that Dominik might be too good to be true.

He had traits she'd always hoped for in a partner, but her past experiences had left her wary.

She also knew she had a tendency to ruin relationships, and she needed to be cautious not to fall into old patterns, yet, with Dominik, things felt different.

He didn't seem to have any expectations, or ulterior motives.

He offered to take care of her, and didn't seem to want anything from her but her heart, in return.

The way he looked at her made her feel like she was the only thing he ever had on his mind and it made her want to give him her all.

She could really fall in love with him.

Still, the lingering doubts persisted and Illy questioned whether she truly had made progress or if she was only playing pretend at being healed while she was still the same dumb teenage Illy who fell too quickly and loved too hard.

Trusting herself and her judgment was a challenge she grappled with daily and now that she was effectively trapped between two men who couldn't be any more opposite, Illy knew taking things one step at a time was crucial.

She frowned as she looked down at him, his broad chest rising and falling gently with every breath, and brushed his hair away from his face, careful not to wake him if she could help it. She planted a quick kiss on his temple before carefully slipping out of bed, wrapping her silk robe tighter around herself.
