"Aaliyahwhat are you doing here?"
"Hey, I had a bad day. I guess I just needed some time with a friend."
"Oh, babes....you look like a mess, trust a friend to tell you that."
I choke out a laugh as I flop down on her couch, Scarlett sits beside me and grabs my hand. "You're such a good friend."
"As if you don't deserve to have a good friend."
I can't believe I'm about to do this.....but I want her to know the truth about the book and I'm tired of keeping everything a secret "Scarlett.... There's something I have to tell you."
She hands me a drink "what is it?"
How should I come out with it? Before I lose the nerve, in one breath I say "I'm the real author of 'On The Market' the book was published behind my back and for the past week, I've been trying to deal with the fallout but I wrote it. Not Zarah." I purse my lips looking up to Scarlett's reaction
I see her blink at me a few time and her jaw comes slowly open. Half grimacing, I look at her out of the corner of my eye while she says nothing.
Come on, say something.....
"I.....I can't believe this! I didn't even know you were a writer!"
"I'm not! I mean, I am........but I was just fantasising, not meaning to go for publication."
"So, someone published it without you knowing?!"
"Yes. If you can imagine how it's been for me, dealing with the shock of it all and trying to keep my life together. I'm just exhausted."
At this point, Scarlett hits me with a pillow
I try to fight her back by shielding it with my hands "hey!"
"Why didn't you tell me before?!"
"I'm sorry! believe me when I say I wanted to but I've just been trying to get to the truth. I only just found out who the publisher behind it was"
"Okay, I get it." But she brings out the pillow again for another slap "Aaliyah, do you know how proud I am of you?! That book is a ducking masterpiece."
