A Missing Piece of the Puzzle

Audrey's eyes widened as she saw her mother standing at the other end of the River Mystery, a hopeful smile on her face. They moved toward each other, their hands clasped in a warm embrace. But as they drew close, Audrey noticed something was amiss. Her mother's eyes lacked their usual sparkle, and her skin seemed waxy and pallid. She steeled herself and asked the question that burned in her mind, 'Why are you here? What happened to you?'

Her mother's voice was hollow, her words raspy, 'I... don't know. All I remember is waking up here after I had prayed for help to make our family happy. But, I don't know how I got here, or why. Everything is so hazy, like I'm in a fog. I'm scared, Audrey. I don't know what's happening to me." Audrey's heart sank as she listened to her mother's trembling words. Something was terribly wrong, and she didn't know how to help.

Desperate to make sense of it all, Audrey asked, 'Are you feeling well? Do you have any pain or injuries? What do you remember from before you woke up here?' Her mother shook her head, her eyes filled with tears, 'I'm fine, physically. But I can't remember anything... it's like there's a black hole in my mind.'Audrey struggled to find the right words, grasping at straws as she tried to comfort her mother; 'It's okay. We'll figure this out together.'

"But mum, where are you and where are we in?" Audrey tried to inquire from my Mum. But her mother's reply was Shocking; "I am at Aunty Vanessa's house. I am tied at the basement. But she won't let you see me or rescue me but please be careful." Audrey replied " Mum let us go." Audrey could hear her mother's voice echoing in her head, warning her to be careful. She felt a surge of fear, but she knew she had to stay calm. She held her hand and like a flash she was brought back to the Mall.

Audrey rushed out of the mall, looking for Alex. Her mind was a blur all she could think about was the strange video she'd seen. But then she realized they hadn't seen their dad anywhere. Had he been in the mall too? Or was he already at Aunt Vanessa's house? She couldn't remember.

Audrey's heart started pounding in her chest. Something was definitely off and she had a sinking feeling that they were in more danger than she could have imagined.

Audrey was still out of breath, even though they had stopped driving. Alex looked at her with concern. 'What was that all about?', He asked. 'You were acting like we were on some kind of mission. But you never told me what we were looking for.' Audrey felt a stab of panic. 'I don't know. It's like the thought was there and then it was gone. But it felt so urgent. I think we should just try to head to Aunt Vanessa's residence.' Alex's eyes searched her face, looking for answers.
