"You two seriously didn't fuck when I left?" Darla-May asks, disappointed when she sits beside me in English. My cheeks heat up and I shake my head. English was first today. Parker left before Darla-May and I even woke up this morning. They left a note saying something about helping a teacher but that was it. And Darla-May's car was somehow in the driveway when we walked out.

"I went to bed Darla-May, keep your voice down," I say, glancing around briefly. "Yesterday, last night never happened."

"Oh but it did," Darla-May says bringing up her phone and sliding it to me. I glance from my laptop and look seeing a picture of a guy with a bloody lip and black eye. "This is the guy that tried to hurt you."

My eyes go wide and my eyes shift to Darla-May's light ones and I shake my head.

"A bunch of people are talking about it and how it happened this fine morning. Nobody knows a thing but I think you and I both know Parker's the one who hit this doofus," Darla-May informs me. I shake my head again and feel Darla-May's hand on my shoulder pushing it. I look at her and see her looking past me. Slowly o turn my head seeing Parker walking in with Mr. Philigans beside them. Both talking slightly.

"They didn't-"

"They did. Parker was the only one who saw what happened. Dude beat that guy for you."

I shift uncomfortably and pick up my hand, running it through my hair. "Well it doesn't matter. Parker is nobody and I'm never going to another party again."

"You'll go to another party just not that house," Darla-May smiles from what I can see out of the corner of my eye. I shake my head and look down at the computer and book I chose.

"Alright class! Begin your projects! You can talk. It's your grade, so think about that!" Mr. Philigans shouts adding, "Mx. Raines will be around writing down what book you've chosen. So have an answer ready or your book present!"

I shift again and look up towards where Parker stood. They're rummaging through stacks of papers before finally slipping one out. I look away before their head turns and I look at Darla-May.

"Darla, do you really think they could be capable of really hurting someone like that?" I ask, low pointing to the picture. Darla-May shrugs.

"Parker did it, Hailee. You know it and I know it. How else would that have happened?"

"Somebody at the party- How do you know it was this guy that-"

"I know it was this guy because a fight would have been all over the school. Nobody really knows about this," Darla-May says cutting me off. "If you don't believe ask Parker yourself."

"I'm not-"

"What books did you two choose?" Parker's voice questions causing me to stop talking and avoid looking at her. I move my book slightly, allowing for them to see it.

"Oh right the book thing-" Darla-May starts. "I actually can't decide. You know there's way too many books out in the world and I just feel bad if I choose just one."

"Darla-May-"

"I know I know. It's the same thing every time-" Darla-May cuts Parker off and stands up placing her hands on her hips. "Darla-May you just have to choose one. It really doesn't matter which one just choose but if you're really that upset about having to choose one then you can always take up reading in your spare time."

I bite my lip to try and hold back my laughter as Darla-May drops her hands from her hip and plops down onto her seat. Parker nods and I can see them crack a smile from the top of my eyes.
