HARPER
I write out another idea in my notes before I wrinkle my nose. No, that's not right either! Sighing with frustration I then flop back on the Alpha's sofa and watch him play for a while. We do this often; we've fallen into a nice routine where we have a morning catch up over coffee in his private chamber before he plays a few songs on his piano to relax himself for the day whilst I polish up my notes. Then in the afternoon we go into our separate offices to focus on our work or Kit will go out and meet with his warriors.
Kits good at the piano, in fact if I'm being perfectly honest, he is vastly more talented than I could ever dream to be. However, the songs he picks are never upbeat, they're always full of sadness and emotion. I haven't pressed him about love life or major lack of, because I didn't want to cross a line, but I guess we're family now and there's been something I've wanted to ask ever since the night I found out about the letters... I'm just not sure how he'll take it.
"Kit." I smile at him as I put down my pen and pad.
"Hmm." He replies, briefly glancing towards me before his eyes return to the piano and he continues playing.
"Umm, well... I kind of had a thought about the guest list for the ball." I begin, before I chew on my bottom lip.
"Well, go on." He encourages. "You can invite whoever you feel fit. It's your ball after all, your debut into society as part of our family before you're inducted into the pack next month."
I smile warmly at the alpha who puts so much trust in me when really, we've known each other barely two months. Yet we're close. I just hope I'm not about to piss him off.
"I was thinking, I know the ball is only a few days away but I want to invite all your Delta's and their mates." I begin as Kit looks to me with interest but never falters on a note.
"Really? Well, if that's what you want?"
"It is." I say encouraged. "These wolves you suggested on your list, they are all outsiders, they may be of high rank but who I really want to meet, and impress is your pack, my new pack."
I see Kit think it over before he nods. "If that's what you want, add them to the guest list, but I suggest that you speak with Jenson before any of the invites are sent out. He knows each delta personally as he meets with them the most. He'd have a better idea of names and all that. I'll send for him to see you this afternoon."
Asking Jenson for help. Well, that's going to be like pulling teeth.
"Sure thing." I say with a fake smile, just as I watch Kit finish his song before he goes straight into a new one. "Kit."
"Hmm."
"There's a few others I want to invite... from what I gather many of the Deltas have... well they have daughters at mating age."
Kit abruptly stops playing to look at me as his eyebrows crease up.
"And why would I invite those, little beta?" He says but I can see he already knows.
"Hear me out before you shoot the idea down." I say getting to my feet and standing next to the piano as I see Kits jaw tense up. "You need a Luna Kit. I get you've given up on the whole love side of things. But what about someone who can rule at your side that you can learn to respect? Your pack needs this, Christian."
"Harper." Kit frowns as he runs a frustrated hand through his hair.
"Would it be so terrible to choose a mate from one of your Delta's daughters? I mean most of your Delta's were originally alphas, weren't they? So, they're from good and strong blood lines. Plus think of the bridges you'd build within your pack if you choose a mate from one of your own."
