CH1: Meet the girls
In the days of war and destruction, many people suffered the brutality from the Capitol. We fought for freedom from the darkness the Capitol shadowed us with. We truly believed we could have defeated the capitol but then the capitols lap dogs, Area 1 and 2, betrayed us, leaving all of us to our doom.
But the Capitol had other plans for us.
They declared a peace to the war if we come to their contract. So many people were hurt, that in our grief, we signed the contract. It had stated that the selected people from each Area from 1- 15 had to go into an arena and fight to the death. There could only be five survivors. All contestants were allowed protectors to enhance the violence and entertainment for the Capitol. All the other Areas who weren’t the capitols lap dogs had very little skill in the art of fighting. Area 1 and 2 had ‘special schools’ teaching them the art of fighting. The Areas had a sort of shield that kept them away from the ‘Other world’ and also stopped the ‘Other Creatures’ finding out about the Area itself.
In Area 15, there were five young girls that were the providers for the village itself. They protected the village with their skills of fighting. Their father, Caius Anders, was from Area 1 but had met their mother, Katherine, from Area 15, during one of the battles. She had saved him when he was attacked from a boy from Area 2. He fell in love with her and soon married her after the battle. They had five children, all girls, shortly after. As much as their father wanted a son, he loved his daughters the same and taught them how to master each weapon they had personally selected.
Maria, who was nineteen, was the first born into the family. She was light and agile but also quick on her feet. Her personal weapon was a black double weaved whip with a silver handle. The whip itself was twice the length of Maria herself. She had dark brown hair that was roughly cut and deep blue pools for eyes. Her face was quite tan but had a few scars that she had received throughout the year. She made sure her family had enough to eat every day by going hunting in the ‘forbidden area’. She tried to provide for the village too, but sometimes it was too dangerous since the capitols guard does random searches in people’s houses.
The second eldest, was Katrina. She recently had her eighteenth birthday. She was the replica of her mother. Her long blonde hair was always tied back in a messy bun. Her deep green mossy eyes burned with emotions, no matter how hard she tried to hide them. She had a small frame for a body but she was strong. Her skin was soft but quite pale with a few freckles on her cheeks. Her weapon of choice was a double bladed sword. She had mastered it when she was only fifteen.
The middle child was Olivia who was only eighteen, nine months younger than Katrina. She had her grandmothers fire red hair and eyes of dark blue like their father, Caius. She was tall and elegant but very deadly with her sword. She had made it herself, out of the finest metal found in the Area. She had mastered it very carefully. Some say she bathed it in the pool of the Mother, the founder of the Area, to obtain the swords moonstone look. She was deadly and had a quick temper so nobody pissed her off, and if you did, you had to run…. Very fast.
The youngest were twins Angel and Lily. They were only 17 years old. They may have been twins but they were completely different. Angel had blonde hair with deep green eyes. She had talent with archery. Her skills were late developing but she managed to master them the previous year.
Lily had brown curly hair with deep pools of blue eyes like her sister Maria. She was very skilled with Daggers and could hit every target either straight in the heart or through the temple of the head, meaning there was instant death, no pain. She hated bringing pain to anyone. In her mind, why should you have to suffer when there is peace at the end of the road anyway?
But tragedy struck when a deadly flu came into the village. Katherine died immediately in her sleep when she caught the disease. Their father, overwhelmed with grief and sickness, got the worst of it. He was in pain the whole time. He screamed, begged for mercy. It broke the daughters’ heart to see their father like this. In the end, Lily ended their father’s pain by giving him a drink of the purple poppy. This contained a special type of poison that allowed him to die without suffering.
The sister were in grief but not as bad as Maria. She had a harder time accepting than the other girls. She rarely showed emotion and was nearly always away from her sisters. They tried to help her but in the end; they just let her be with the advice from their Grandmother. Their grandmother said that Maria had fallen in love, in secret with a boy from the district. They were going to get married. She hadn’t told anyone other than her parents because she didn’t know how they would react but he was taken by the flu and she couldn’t handle the pain of losing so many loved ones at once so she has closed herself off to emotions.
Her sisters were shocked and didn’t know Maria was in love. Slowly, Maria they used to know returned and she tried to be normal but her sister could still see her pain of losing her love. They prayed for a miracle to happen they just didn’t expect to be so quick.
