"Miss, you are requested at dinner." Mariano told Kassandra.
"Oh, what's the occasion?"
"I don't know, miss. I was just told to make sure you are there."
Kassandra got dressed and walked towards the dining room followed by Mariano. "Oh, finally, the guest of honor makes an appearance." Anya said as Kassandra entered the room. She was guided to sit next to German, right in front of Renata.
"Why is she having dinner with us, German?" Renata asked.
"I wanted her here, Renata. She's a guest in our house, she shouldn't be kept hidden in her room all day. Don't you agree, dear?" Anya asked German. He just looked between Kassandra and Anya.
"Sir, Mister Mendoza is here." The butler announced. Kassandra froze and felt German's hand on her squeezing it.
"Let him in." Anya said furiously watching their interaction.
"Hello, family." Carlo said entering the dining room. German quickly let go of Kassandra's hand and stood up to shake Carlo's hand. Then Carlo sat next to Anya at the other end of the table. "Well, well, well." He said looking at Kassandra. "What do we have here?"
"I forgot to tell you we have a guest for a few days. Should I introduce you, or do you know each other?" Anya asked, smiling.
"Oh, we know each other. We know each other very well." Carlo said without taking his eyes off Kassandra. "How are you doing, Kassandra?"
"I'm fine. And you?"
"Surprised to see you here. Right, German?"
"She's just passing through. Nothing to concern yourself with."
"But it does concern me, we had an agreement."
"Let's just enjoy dinner." Anya said as they started serving dinner.
All dinner was quiet, Carlo kept staring at Kassandra and German. Anya couldn't stop smiling. As dinner was over, Kassandra stood up. "I would like to be excused." German nodded and waved her away.
"What? No kiss goodbye?" Carlo asked, grabbing her wrist as she walked by him.
"Carlo! Let her go!" German yelled, standing up and knocking down a glass.
"Why should I?" Carlo stood up and grabbed Kassandra by her waist and pulled her close to him. "You basically just handed her to me."
"Miss Mills and I have some unfinished business. As soon as we talk and clear it, she's leaving."
Carlo let her go as she ran out of the room and he laughed. "She's a fun one."
German walked out too, followed by Renata. "That was fun." Anya said laughing.
"So, what did the doctor say?" Carlo asked, sitting next to Anya again.
"I'm the problem, Carlo. I can't have kids."
"What did German say?"
"That we could always adopt. I think you were right. He never read the marriage contract."
"Let's hope it stays that way, otherwise you're out on the streets and you know it. Damn you for never making him fall in love with you all these years. You can't even do that right."
"What else do you want me to do, Carlo? I'm living with the ghost of damn Kassandra. Now she's back in our lives."
"I need to find out what this unfinished business they have is. I hope it is not about the brat. He can't find out."
"She's going to tell him first chance she gets, Carlo!"
"She doesn't want to. I can tell. She can't wait to leave. She knows that if she tells him, that is it for her freedom."
"I hope you're right."
Kassandra was getting out of the shower and she opened the bathroom door. She found German sitting on a chair next to the bed. "German! What are you doing here?"
He stood up and walked towards her. He got close to her and caressed her cheek. "You still have all this power over me. I can't help it."
She closed her eyes as she felt his touch. She took a deep breath and slowly pushed him away. "German, you're married! You shouldn't be here." She walked past him.
He grabbed her arm and pulled her back. He grabbed her face and kissed her. She struggled at first, but gave up and put her arms around his neck returning the kiss. A knock on the door interrupted them. "Mister Rios, Mrs. Rios is coming." Mariano said from the other side of the door.
German looked at Kassandra one more time. "I'm sorry. Tomorrow morning come to the study so we can talk and clear the air, then you can be on your way." He let go of her and left the room. She dropped to her knees and started crying.
The next morning a knock woke her up. Kassandra sat up on the bed and looked around, remembering where she was at. Her head hurt from crying all night. The knock interrupted her thoughts. "Yes?"
"Miss Mills, Mister Rios is waiting for you in his study." Mariano said from the other side of the door.
"Tell him I'll be there in fifteen minutes." She quickly got up and went to the bathroom to get ready. Fifteen minutes later she was walking down the stairs next to Mariano. He guided her towards the study, knocked on the door and let her in. She slowly walked in and stared at German sitting behind the desk.
"Good morning." He motioned her to take a seat.
She quickly sat down and crossed her legs. "What do you want to talk about?"
"You should know." He said getting up and walking around the desk to the front and leaning against the desk.
"German, I'm not here to play games. Tell me what you want and let me go." She said, staring at him.
Suddenly there was a commotion outside the door. The butler knocked and opened the door. "Sorry to disturb you, sir. But there's a Mister Thorpe is here insisting on seeing Miss Mills."
"Damien?" Kassandra whispered.
"Who is this Thorpe?" German asked her.
"He's... um."
"Her boyfriend." Damien said walking into the study.
"Boyfriend?" German looked at her.
"Yes, Damien Thorpe, and who the hell is he, Kassandra?" Damien asked.
"He's my..." Kassandra looked at German hopelessly. "My..."
"I'm her client. Miss Mills, I thought we agreed on complete confidentiality with my case." German said, walking back behind his desk.
"Damien, I told you I was dealing with a case. What are you doing here?"
"You wouldn't tell me where you were, so I tracked your cell phone. I told you I will find you."
"You tracked my cell phone? Isn't that a bit extreme?"
"Miss Mills, I see you have things to attend to. Mariano, can you show Mister Thorpe and Miss Mills back to their room. Miss Mills, whenever you're ready and free, we'll continue this conversation." German said.
"Damien, I need to speak with Mister Rios. It's really important so I can go back home. Please, leave."
"There's no need. Mister Thorpe is welcomed to stay. I just remembered I have some things to tend to. We'll continue this conversation another time." German said leaving them.
