(Ellie's POV)
"Ellie?" Joe sat up sleepily.
"Yeah?" I turned over in the bed, hugging the pillow.
"I think we should get up. It's half eleven." He giggled.
"Let's just stay another ten minutes, it's too cold out there."
"Okay sweetie." Joe took my hand, wrapping my arm around him.
I chuckled, and used my other hand to check through Twitter on my phone.
"Oh my god." I sat up straight.
"What??" Joe said, sitting up too.
"It says here 'two teens beaten in a home."
"That's brutal." Joe said, shocked.
"I know..."
"But, look at their names..." I shook.
"Evelyn Smith, Rebecca Hamer." Joe read.
"Please no," I began to cry.
"Baby, it's ok, they'll be okay. I'll come with you, they'll be fine."
"How could I let this happen to my best friend and my sister!" I sobbed, climbing out of bed and grabbing a sweater, skinny jeans and converse, before tying my hair in a messy bun and not bothering with makeup.
I rushed downstairs and grabbed a slice of toast.
"I'm off, I'll see you later." I called to Joe, Zoe and Alfie.
"Wait up Ellie! I'm coming with you!" Joe yelled.
"No you stay here, I will be fine." I shouted back.
"Ellie, just wait a minute." Joe ran down the stairs, nearly knocking into me, "your dad won't be there will he?"
"I hope not. He's probably involved in this. Somehow. But I'll be okay, if he's involved, he'll be at the police station."
"If you won't let me come with you, I need to make sure you're safe, if you're in trouble, call me, and use the code word doughnut okay? I know, it's weird, but it's my favourite, so use it and I'll come get you."
i giggled a little at the code word, "okay Joe, how will you know where I am though?"
"You'll have to tell me. Ring me if you're at the hospital, at your house, or at the police station. Okay? I think you'll be alright. Damn, I feel bad. Can I still come?"
"No, Joe I think this is something I have to sort out myself."
"If you get hurt I will never forgive myself Ellie." he sounded croaky, as if he was about to cry, and then he hugged me, "remember, doughnut, okay?"
"Okay." I chuckled, setting off it Joe's car. Don't worry, I have a licence.
It took me around fifteen minutes to get to the police station, an hour and a half to the hospital, and two hours from my old home.
I decided to start at the police station since it was the nearest. I headed that way, and soon came across the sign 'Surrey Police HQ'.
I was nervous.
I parked outside and stepped nervously to the desk where a grim looking police officer chewing gum was sitting.
"Hello."
"Oh hey you. You came to report something? You have something to confess?" He began, spitting saliva as he talked.
I took a step back, "I just wanted to ask if you know anything about the beating in a home including two teenage girls."
"We do indeed. Why do you need to know?" The man said, pulling the string of gum out of his mouth and sticking it under the table, high school style.
"I am...closely related to the people in the accident. I just wondered, was David Hamer involved?" I trembled as I spoke.
"You're just a teenager. I'm not telling anything to you! Be off with you!" He shooed me away, and I took this as an opportunity to leave.
"Well that was a waste of time." I muttered.
I decided to call Joe to update him on what happened, since I knew he was worried.
I called him and told him everything. He was very supportive. He told me to stay safe and I told him I would. I hung up the phone because I needed to continue searching for my two best friends.
I stopped at the hospital, my heart racing. I walked up to the reception desk in Farnham General hospital and asked for a Becki Hamer and Evelyn Smith, but they confirmed, they weren't here. I was confused. They checked any other hospitals after I told them my close relationships between the two girls. They weren't there either. Where had they gone?
