(Joe's POV)
I saw waiting for hours for Ellie to ring me again. I was worried and I knew, I shouldn't have left her on her own. It was dangerous.
"Joe?" Ellie called, sounding slightly scared.
"Yes Ellie?"
"You should go home. I might be a Dad's for a while."
"What? Ellie...what's happ-"
"Oh and buy some doughnuts on the way home." She hinted. I knew it was my cue.
""Aha. Okay. See you later. Love you." I spoke into the phone, putting my coat on.
"Love yo-" she croaked, before a heard a noise as if something had been thrown, and then it hung up.
I ran down the stairs, grabbed my keys and phone, and then climbed in the car. I knew the house was quite far away -two hours- but I knew I could get there faster if I pressed the pedal down. I managed it in an hour. I couldn't stop thinking about her and what had happened.
I pulled up next to a house with police swarming outside.
I honked my horn as quick as I could before rushing out of the car, ignoring the police's warnings. I didn't care, I just wanted to make sure she wasn't hurt. I knew I was going to get into trouble for not listening the police. But now I was putting her before me, my safety and reputation didn't matter.
I heard a scream. And then a gunshot.
Bang!
"oh my god." I broke down the door with a mighty effort and into the living room I went, frantically searching for any signs of Ellie.
"Ellie! " I called, opening the patio door.
"Don't. Move." I heard a voice.
"I spun around, only to be pressed hard against the wall.
"Where is she?" I looked this man in the eyes.
He laughed, and let me go.
"Upstairs." He grinned.
How could this man just stand there laughing and smiling? I wondered what had happened.
I decided to walk away and climb the stairs but a hand shoved me down.
"You do know who I am, right?" The man stood above me.
I slid up the wall.
"Yes."
"Good, good," he chuckled, "and you see this?" He drew the two weapons from his pockets. The bloodstained knife and a loaded gun.
I tried not to show my fear.
"Yes yes." I slowly stepped up the stairs. He decided to let me go upstairs, but he waited on the bottom step, the gun loaded and ready.
I rushed into the room, Becki and Evie were shouting, but my mind seemed to block them out. All I could think about her. And seeing her, lying there, blood escaping her flesh, was the hardest thing I had ever encountered. I ran to her side, tears escaping my eyes.
"What has he done to you?" I whispered, touching her side where the bullet had hit it. She has passed out from the shock and the loss of blood.
I opened the window, shouting for help from the officers below.
"Help! Someone's been shot, we need an ambulance quick!" Joe screamed, as the police took action.
I felt a nudge below me.
"Joe?" Ellie tried to sit up. She felt her side and gasped.
"Shh, shh its okay baby, someone's coming to help you." I rocked her back and forth as she cried in my lap.
"There there," she smiled weakly as I moved a strand of her hair out of her face."
"Joe what happened?" She coughed.
"Your dad. He shot you. but it's okay, you're safe now."
"You think you're safe, do you?" i spun around, to see a gun pointed straight at Ellie's head.
"you were supposed to be dead?" David hissed to Ellie. A tear fell down her cheek. She was about to retaliate when she saw what was coming.
"Well, now can be the end, you know?" He smiled and held his finger over the trigger. As he pressed it, I felt an urge to do something.
But what?
And then.
Bang!!
"Joe!!!" Ellie cried, bending over me in spite of her shot side, "Joe!"
She stood up, and crawled over to her dad. He turned around, smiled and was about to leave when Ellie took a lighter out of her back pocket. She made some sparks, and threw it. It hit her Dad's clothes, and soon he was engulfed in deathly flames. Soon the house filled with smoke and fire, and Ellie wearily climbed onto Joe's limp lap.
"It'll be alright babe." She whispered, her eyes welled up with tears. She rocked me, even though i was no longer crying and was no longer awake. She couldn't tell whether i was passed out or dead.
She shuddered.
Ellie then took her phone and called the people she knew were going to help me.
She knew we were only sat huddled by the window for a few minutes, but it felt like eternity.
