Life returned to normal again. Tammy had gone back to Oregon when her friend had gone to ghost jail. She wouldn't bother trying to fight the Trio.
Stretch was glad to have his twins. His brothers started helping in their care too, though Stretch was watchful how they cared for them. They were just backup care. He and Casper were the main ones caring for them again.
But Stretch really was finding it hard to leave his twins to go scaring. He kept their names as Shriek and Screech rather than what Chaos had called them. He didn't want them going by human names. If he had been human, it might have been different.
If Screech and Shriek were going to stay in the family, they needed a nanny to help take care of them. Stretch needed some time to be able to go scaring and such. Hang with his brothers and be a guy. He ended up hiring a lady to take care of the twins in their own home. Casper also had to go to school so Casper couldn't take care of them all the time.
Stretch would check in on his kids when he could. He left the nanny in charge of Shriek and Screech a lot of the time, but he still would go and take care of his kids. He had wanted the custody, and he would make good on his promise. The nanny was never seen around the house much.
The nanny's name was Alice. The twins were like family to her. She liked living in Whipstaff Manor. It was so picturesque to her. She also liked their nephew Casper. But she wasn't all that crazy for being around live humans. She kept her distance from them.
She saw that the guys really needed a woman around here to bring some order to the chaos here in the manor. But she would do as she was hired to do, take care of the twins. She wasn't about to let the humans take care of them, but she tolerated their presence when necessary.
Stretch would hang out with the twins when he felt like it. He was making sure that he didn't develop feelings for this nanny in his house. He always made sure to tuck them in at night when he got home from scaring.
Stinkie and Fatso would take part in their care sometimes but just weren't the craziest for childcare. They left that to Stretch and Casper, and Alice.
For Stretch, having his babies made him feel like he had a part of himself that was missing. Love. But he would have preferred a woman to love him as much as he would love her. He had almost had it with Chaos once, but she had just been using him. But she was behind bars now.
But the safety of his kids still waned on his mind. If Chaos ever got loose again, she would likely still come after him and his family. Or just Screech and Shriek. Was it best to keep them here, or send them away?
One day, he felt he had to talk to Alice. It had been three months since the trial.
"Hey, Alice, I need to talk to you." Stretch said.
"Yeah, Stretch, what about?" Alice asked. She was feeding Screech his bottle.
Stretch picked up his daughter at the same time. She was asleep at the moment. "These two little guys."
"What about them?" Alice asked.
"Do you ever feel like you're their sole caretaker? I know I get busy with my scaring and needing to have guy time with my brothers, but I still love these two. But I also worry about Chaos getting out of ghost jail and coming back after them." Stretch explained. "Do you think I would be better off sending them away for their own good?"
"I often do feel like a mom to them since they need a mother figure in their afterlives." Alice replied. "And I care for them the most. You barely seem to acknowledge them. You like to have your independence. How'd you feel about letting them be adopted instead?" she asked.
"I still want to see them. But you're right. I do have too much independence. I like being able to do what I want when I want. Are you interested in adopting them? I don't want my sister to have them." Stretch asked.
"It would be an honor, Stretch." Alice replied happily.
"If Chaos had done it this way, maybe I would have agreed, but she did it too forcefully. And she wouldn't allow me to see them. Just hid them from me. But I still want parental rights to see them when I want." Stretch decreed.
"Of course. All kids need their dads." Alice said. She did find some of Stretch's ways charming. But it was clear he didn't want to be with her. But she would be glad to be getting the kids to herself. They were like hers.
.............
In time, with social services, Stretch gave Shriek and Screech up for adoption to Alice. But he still had his own parental rights to be involved. She was also to stay near Whipstaff with the twins.
Stretch gave his kids each a kiss and hug goodbye as they went to live with their new adoptive mom. She was glad they were now called her kids. And she was always welcome to bring the kids by or ask for Stretch's help with them.
As much as he liked being their father, and he always would be, Stretch was just a too independent man that needed to be free to do what he wanted, when he wanted. He would see the twins weekly though at Alice's house. Alice also didn't want to be near living humans, so this was for the best. But if Shriek and Screech were ever in danger, Stretch would make sure they were safe.
Stretch now had his full independence and knew where his son and daughter were. His brothers didn't have to take part in their care at all if they didn't want to. Casper would gladly still help out, but he also had to concentrate of looking after his uncles, the house, and going to ghost kid school.
James had liked having some babies around the house. They had made the house more interesting. He couldn't understand how Stretch had given them up for adoption, but that was just Stretch. But then, Stretch had done it for their own good, to be safe from Chaos.
Kat had been okay with the kids, but she was still a kid herself and she wasn't always on the upside with the ghosts that she lived with in the house. She still had to finish school too.
Stretch would always be independent, and liked being single, but he still longed for that woman to find love with. His crush was Miss Banshee at the moment. But he would always be there for his kids when they needed him. Alice was their new mom though. He would let her handle much more of the responsibilities as she was better at childcare.
Stretch and his brothers would still be the scarers of the household and still also having Casper in their care as well. They just had to have balance in their house again, as much as possible. If the twins were a little older, then they could live with their dad, but they were a ways off from being old enough.
Stretch had done what he thought was best for himself and his kids, for their safety. At least he knew where they were this time around and would continue to see them weekly, unless something came up that he couldn't make it. Then he would see them as soon as possible.
Stretch was a father now and had some responsibilities that came with it. He loved his kids and wanted what was best for them. He hoped they would one day be scarers like him. He would also watch them when Alice felt like scaring. She liked to do it too. Other times, Casper would babysit too.
This was the way it would be for Stretch and his family. His kids would continue to know him from this point onward, but they would live separately from him. It was the best he could do right now for them.
The End
I know this was a short story, but I hoped everyone enjoyed it. At least Stretch got his twins back. Since the babies were never seen on the show again, and Stretch was seen as really independent, I figured he would get a responsible caretaker for them. This was a happier ending at least, and he would continue to be involved with them.
