❀ LUCY ❀
AN OMINOUS FEELING HUNG OVER THE CAMP. SILENCE TO OCCUPY THEIR MINDS AS THEY AWAITED THE NEWS OF OLIVER'S FATE. The faintest flick of a candle stick. A single flame rising and falling, a canopy of shadows to accompany its blaze; light on (Carl's recovery). Light off (Sophia's disappearance). Over, and over, and over again until Lucy had no idea what direction Mother Nature tilted the scales in. Whether they'd be allowed momentary happiness and luck.
Well, that was until the discovery of Oliver's condition snuffed out the light completely. The flame they'd been slowly building up since Carl's recovery from the bullet wound, and finding Sophia's doll, was gone the instance Sidney screamed for help. Crushing what little hope they had of the small flame to rise into a full-on blaze.
The scene, was horrendous, to say the least. The older Harmon man lying in a heap of his vomit on the porch, his grandson's iron grip an anchor to keep him from falling. The only noise to be heard was Sidney's pleas for help. For anyone to please save his gramps! They started powerfully; incoherent screams turned to agonizing whimpers once he tired himself out enough. Until the noise disappeared completely. Replaced by a blank expression and mindless tears.
That was when the seizures started. . . The younger Harmon man was too petrified to do anything other than stare at Oliver's convulsing body. Witness what he no doubt believed to be his death. Lucy knew his pain better than the back of her hands. For she too witnessed a petrifying scene of her own brother's convulsions. Praying. Praying so hard for his life to be spared. For his eyes to open once more.
Carl's had. Yet Oliver's . . . Oliver's hadn't done so. At least not yet.
Hershel declared him in a coma a few minutes after the seizures stopped. Rick and Shane lifted him gently and carried the man to a bed for further examination.
Lucy had thought the older man to be dead when she first laid her eyes on the scene. Following the adults outside, from the remainder of an awkward dinner between their people and Hershel's people. She had thought Oliver and Sidney lucky to miss the whole meal, just as lucky as Glenn and Maggie who snuck away halfway through. Then she heard Sidney's scream. Saw her father and Shane share a panicked look before rushing outside, the only weapons they could get ahold of were the steak knives from dinner.
