So I'm starting to write more so it won't be months before I update, which is good news for people who actually like this. Chapters will be shorter because I'm lazy and not that creative but I will try to make them awesome. Summer vacation has started so I might try to write another book, I don't know I'm going to be bored.

"Hello, my daughter."

Helena took a step back from the man and looked at him with a shocked face. So many thoughts and questions ran through her head. But then they were suddenly replaced with disbelief and fear of it being a trick.

"You're lying. I've never met my father but I know it's not you! Who are you really?"

The man sighed and looked at her with sad eyes. "I know it's hard to believe since we're in a place like this and you havn't really trusted anyone. Not even Jane. But you have to trust me on this, I'm not even supposed to be here!"

"What are you talking about? I trust people, especially my mom. I just don't trust strange men that appear out of nowhere claiming to be my father."

"No you don't Helena. Somewhere deep inside yourself you still blame your mother for leaving you like that, even under her circumstances."

"Y-you're lying! Just leave me alone, I have to find my mom." Helena turned her back on him and started walking towards the house.

"Where are you going? You don't even know where she is. But I do."

Helena stopped. She grabbed her knife and held it to his throat.

"Where is she?"

He smirked, "So now you trust me?"

Helena lowered the knife from his throat."Just take me to her."

"Gladly." He took her arm and they both disappeared into a cloud of ash.

Jane stared in to the eyes and stayed perfectly still. There was a loud snort then the eyes slowly closed and the cavern was filled with its heavy breathing.

Jane staggered backwards. As she stepped back there was a loud crunch from the skeletons under her. The monster grumbled but didn't wake up.

Jane let out the huge breath she didn't know she was holding. She slowly walked backwards from it with her knife out. When she was sure she was a safe enough distance, she ran as fast as she could away from it until she felt something grab her and muffle her mouth. She struggled to get out of it's grasp until she heard a familiar voice coming from it.

"Shhhh!! Jane you're gonna wake it up!"

Jane turned and saw a face she thought she'd never see for the rest of her life.

"Marissa!!"

They hugged each other tightly and Jane started tearing up.

"What are you doing here? I thought you were dead!"

"So did I until I woke up in this place. I've been hiding from that monster for a while."

"Wait, what do you mean you thought? Yo-"

They were interrupted by a deafening roar. The monster had woken up.

"C'mon we have to move Jane!" Marissa grabbed her arm and started running.

Jane felt the ground shake each time the monster took a step. Marissa led them to a small cave lighted by a torch and rolled a giant rock over the entrance, then blew out the torch.

They waited in the darkness until they heard a man screaming and the monsters snores fill the cavern.

Marissa took out her lighter and relit the torch. She rolled the giant rock out of the way. She sighed and leaned back against the wall of the cave.

Jane was quiet for a moment then asked, "Who was that screaming?"

Marissa looked up, "I don't know. He eats one person every day. If you're quick it won't be you."

"Where are we anyway?"

"I don't know. But one thing I do know is that whoever put us here has one twisted mind."

"And you've been living here for 2 years!? What have you done this entire time?"

"Mostly running. I have to move camp often so it doesn't find me."

"How about any clues on how to get out of here?"

Marissa sighed again, "Only one. Whenever the monster wakes up, there's a small light behind its nest that goes on. Of course I havn't been able to go near the nest in all this time. But I know that it's a way out."

Jane stood up. "Then let's get out."

"What? That's impossible you'd wake up the monster."

"That's why I need your help. Please, let's get you out of this hellhole." Jane held out her hand.

Marissa's face grew stern. "No. I'm not risking my life on this. If you wanna try, do it yourself."

Jane retracted her hand with a hurt expression. "What happened to you? You were always the optimistic one, the one that cheered everyone up in the tough times. What happened?"

Marissa looked down at her knees. "Two years happened Jane. Two years of no hope happened."

Jane turned and left the cave without looking back. Soon the light of her torch grew into a small speck behind her.

As she walked away she cried silently because she remembered that Marissa died and so did she.
