Chapter 24

Althea and Rubes doubled over in laughter as they watch Yeilk interact with a newborn. The newest addition was just born and as the chief of the tribe its his duty to bless the baby. She wasn't going to intervene because it's too hilarious.

Who would have thought the most fearless warrior is actually afraid of a harmless baby.

He hand the baby back quickly and step back. It make her laugh even harder.

He stroll over to her with a vicious grin on his face. He bend to her height and lift her chin. "What's so funny?"

"Is that how you're going to be around our kids?"

He scratch his neck awkwardly and straighten to his full height.

"Those are demon spawns. Come let's join the others for dinner."

They walk to the camp and sit. She got comfortable in his lap and he was more than happy to have her there. His hand trace circle on her belly and he was in another world of his own.

After dinner everyone retire to their homes for the evening while Althea and Yeilk went to the lake. It's become a little routine of theirs.

She was learning to swim. It's not easy. She has always have this fear of drowning. It's hasn't gone away but she trust Yeilk not to let her drown.

They got the lake and she strip. Without warning Yeilk jump into the water with her.

Her frighten scream echo through the forest. Yeilk bring her to the surface with a laugh.

"You barbarian!" He laugh and held her hands as she try to beat him.

She call him every swear word in the book even through he probably don't know what most of them mean. Yet all through the cursing there was a smile on her face.

She take deep breaths calming her racing heart.

"Calm now?"

"Let's go again!" Now that make him laugh. He carry her back to the deep and let her float around. "The tide is high and am holding on! I'm going to be the number one!"

"What's that song?"

"It's from a mermaid movie I once watch. You don't know what that is but I watch it for the songs."

"It's sounds nice." She smile up at him before closing her eyes and float around again.

She scream when something wrap around her ankle.

"It's OK. Just a water snake."

"Snake! How are you so calm?"

"These snakes are harmless. They like the human attention."

"Oh." He dive under and came up moments later with a pearl white one. "Wow! I'll name this one Bella."

"It's a male."

"Then Jay." She touch it with a finger and it wrap around her arm. "It don't get bigger does it?"

"No." Thank heavens. "You should put it back now. It can't stay long without water." Althea lower her arm and it went back into the water.

She's loving this lake even more now. Back in her world she would never in her right mind though of touching one.
