Later that day. She sit in front of man who silently flips through resume , humming to himself. She was watching the clock slowly tick, tick, tick.

"Could this go any slower"

Time passes slowly as she scan the dull office. It smells like old papers. She wait patiently. Finally, the interviewer clears his throat and lifts his eyes form the resume.

"You interviewed well." She said with a good smile.

"Thank you." She lean forward in anticipation.

"Unfortunately, I have to reject you. You just don't have enough experience."

"I understand.. thank you for your time." She says.

" well, there are many doors to knock on I shouldn't be discouraged by this one interview."

Though slightly dejected,  her optimism was unwavering. She force herself to smile, in a bid to feel better , before she head home.

—————

Her phone rings; it's mom. She hear up to tell her all about her day, her worries and her hopes.

" hey , honey I don't have long"

She rolls her eyes because that's what her mother always says.

"How are you?" Her mother continued.

"Great! Oh, mom. I love it here so much!" She force a smile.

"Oh, yeah? That's... that's good."

Something seems off about her mother today. She can her it in her tone.

"Tell me about it"

At her prompt, she quickly dismiss her nervousness and lunch the story about how her day went.

"I just came back home from a job interview today. But I didn't get it as they were looking for someone with more experience." Jennie says with a sad tone which was also visible on her face.

"I'm sure you'll find something else soon." Her mother said cheering her.

" I'm so grateful that I don't have to deal with the pressure of having enough money to survive..."

The line goes utterly quite.  Jennie start to wonder if everything's okay.

" mom? Is everything ok?" With worried tone.

" I have something to tell you?"

"Yes"

" I just want to let you know that I spoke with your dad after consulting few of my friends, who are behavioural psychologist and we have decided that..."

Jennie holds her breath, worried about what this could be.

".. well we have realised that you are becoming a find a young lady and that as an adult you have to pave your own path."

Jennie can already see where this is going, but she was not ready to acknowledge it.

" What do you mean?" She said angry.

There is silence on the other line and then a deep sigh.

" we aren't going to support you financially anymore. We are cutting you off today." her mother say directly not even hesitate. " but it's for your own good. It will teach you to be more resilient and independent. It's good for your character. Building too."
