Draken POV
In the middle of the night, I'm thrown out of the house by Emma's grandfather. Apparently he doesn't like what I've done to his beloved granddaughter - which was impossible to ignore. My respect for this old man is great enough to accept his wish and leave.
The clock shows just before half past three, in the morning, when I finally stand in front of my own door. I try to be quiet, but when I see the faint light from my sister's bedroom seeping under the door, I bid farewell to the idea.
"Still awake?", I ask myself, heading straight for the room. With a knock, I ask into the silence, "Meiyo? Are you still awake?" No answer. Another knock, but again the room remains silent. I wait a moment and finally say, "Meiyo, I'm coming in now. I don't care what you're doing or wearing that you don't want me to see. Tough luck." Without waiting for a response, I push open the door and step inside. Since there is no response, I look right around and find an empty room.
Confused, I turn to look at the bathroom door, as she may be in the bathroom, but the door is wide open. I search the entire apartment, but there is no sign of her anywhere. Mild panic rises in me as I grab my cell phone and dial her number. I hear the monotonous buzz of the call, but she doesn't pick up.
"Are you kidding me?", I mutter angrily into my cell phone as if it's to blame. Again, I dial her number. And again, the same result - unreachable. Enraged, I hurl my cell phone to the floor, where it shatters into its component parts.
More hours pass and the sun is already rising outside. I'm starting to get really worried. I've tried to call her a hundred times after I've reassembled my cell phone, but each time I can't reach her. My heart is pounding wildly, and my legs are fidgeting nervously as my fingers drum restlessly on some surface.
"I'm really worried about her," I confess anxiously.
"She'll be fine," Emma tries to comfort me. I called her directly and without hesitation, she came to me immediately. Before I can say anything back, I hear the front door squeak open. My tension makes me jump up and I rush to the door. There she stands, taking off her shoes.
"Meiyo!", I immediately yell at her with a mixture of anger and relief. "Where the hell have you been?" She winces violently and looks at me, but then bursts out laughing and comes up to me to take me in her arms. For a brief moment, I forgot how worried and angry I had been, and I let myself be carried away by her embrace. But when she starts laughing, I push her away from me and stare at her with mixed emotions.
"Are you drunk?", I ask her, stunned, as she continues to laugh. She raises her hand, puts her thumb and forefinger together, and says with a big grin, "Maybe sooooo little."
I look at her in disbelief, and her continued laughter adds to my confusion.
"Who were you with, and where the hell were you?", I now continue angrily again, and she flinches again as my voice increases in volume.
"I...don't remember. It was somewhere... there were sooo many people," she begins to tell me, spreading her arms at the 'so'. "And the music was so loud and really awful bad!" She slurs unintelligibly, and I can only half understand. "But I met sooo many people there... and danced! And I had this drink there... that was soooo blue!" she continues, and with each additional 'so' she stretches her arms apart again. "That blue looked really creepy, but it was sooo yummy!" Wide-eyed, she looks at me and grins widely.
In disbelief, I shake my head and rub my temple. The situation is so surreal, and anger is bubbling up inside me. But yelling at her now and scolding her won't do any good, she needs to sober up first before we can sort this out. But then she will get her telling off.
"Yeah yeah little sister, off to bed with you," I sigh and grab her by the shoulders to push her into her room. It's obvious she finds the whole situation amusing. On the scant three meters to her room, she falls down almost ten times, accompanied by incessant laughter. As soon as she reaches her bed, she literally falls into it and falls asleep in seconds.
With a sigh rubbing my neck, I let myself fall exhausted onto the couch, where Emma is still sitting and looking at me. A faint smile curls her lips as she remarks, "I guess she was just partying."
"Just partying?", I can't help myself, my voice louder than I really want it to be. "I was seriously fucking worried. Who has she been hanging out with? Who got her so wasted and partied all night?" I almost feel the need to smash something. But at the same time, it's a load off my mind that she's finally home.
"She would never have done anything like that before. She never would have touched a drop of alcohol or spent the whole night out. Whoever she was out with is definitely not good company," I add, running my hands over my face.
"I don't see what's so bad about it. Just let her have fun," Emma replies indifferently, shrugging her shoulders. I just shake my head in response and leave it uncommented. An argument with her is the last thing I want right now.⊱ ────── {⋅. ✯ .⋅} ────── ⊰
