Getting Back to Us...
Usually Natalie would be in her own world or listening to Sam as the two held a conversation, but tonight, she was behind the wheel. She needed to keep her focus on the road, putting on their joint playlist to entertain them along the drive. The views were nice as she grew further and further from her place, pointing to the stars that glowed in the sky.
She only knew the name of the restaurant because she needed the directions to get there, unaware of the beautiful waterfront there'll be dining in front of.
Natalie was a sucker for a good view, and Sam knew this, so when his phone rang with some bad news, he wasn't too proud of the change of plans.
"Hello?" he voiced in a more questioning tone, now on a call with a random number.
"Is this Mr. Sam Castillo?" the man on the other end asked, reading the name on the small white card.
Knitting his brows, "yes."
"I'm so sorry for the inconvenience. I know you had my employees set up a wonderful display for dinner tonight for you and your girlfriend, but a pipe bursted here at the restaurant, and we have to shut down," the man stated with no enthusiasm.
Natalie stares over at him, "what's wrong?" she mouthed.
"Eyes on the road," he pointed ahead, Natalie's brows raising as she nodded.
The owner of the restaurant continued, "if there's someway I can get you two to reschedule when we resolve this issue, I am more than pleased to put you two at the top of the list."
One might not be as nice as this owner, but because he spoke to Sam personally and received extra to get them the best table in the house, he felt like he at least owed him a personal call.
Sam wasn't too pleased to know about the cancellation, but what more could he do by going back and forth on the phone?
Natalie kept her gaze on the road this time when she asks again, "what's wrong?"
"Pipe burst at the place I was taking you to tonight," he sighed.
"Awww man," she pouted, slouching lightly.
"We can go somewhere else. I'm sure someone has a seat available," starting to search for something decent to their liking with little time.
"At this hour? I doubt it, babe," causing him to look over at her. She gasps when a thought comes to mind, "how about we do something else?"
"Like what?"
Beaming with eagerness, she tells him to type in a place so she could get off at the right exit.
Searching for somewhere to dine at would only have them feeling rushed to settle on something, and although fine dining was always nice, something subtle can mean just as much.
Making it to their destination in one piece, Natalie begins to gloat about her driving skills with pride, "see. Professional," shutting his car door.
He scuffed, "barely," waiting for her to round the car before heading inside the store, "I had to park the car."
She approached him with a smile, "I never said I was good at that," she chuckled, getting pulled into him. With his arm over her shoulder, she was able to lace her fingers with his that was resting over her shoulder, using her right arm to snake around his torso.
"I'll teach you," he glanced down at her.
"But, you have to admit, that was some good driving."
"It was," Sam confessed.
